| RECEIVER MATCHUP | Garon Nov 11, 2003 9:00 AM | | I'm gonna buy a new home theatre and need a a/v receiver. I can pay 1500 dollars max. I'm gonna put the receiver brands that are available in my fav hifi-store what I have heard of them or the impression I have got. Remember I'm not a hifi expert. Also I want to buy the same brand dvd-player so I think Sony suffers here (the whole sacd only thing).
Denon - simply put they are not exciting. you can tell a lot from looking the remote controls and Denon's isn't good. Denon needs to look to the future.
Marantz - well its asian (I think) and I don't think it's a plus here. When you look at Marantz I don't get any vibes. Same as Denon remote's a mess.
Pioneer - it's stylish like a toy, but I don't think it offers the best performance
Sony - might be good but I am dissappointed in the way Sony's dvd players have turned out.
Rotel - in amps and cd players they are awesome, in hometheatre no so much.
Harman Kardon - well I think they offer the best bang for the buck. They have power, they are stylish, they look into the future and the remote's not bad. My pick for now.
In my book what I look for in a receiver is style, future (connections, audio format support) and performance. Comment please! |

The Elite line can hold its own with any other systems out there and the remotes are awesome. But pick what you like, just MHO. |
| Agreed... | Kursun Nov 12, 2003 9:20 AM | | Pioneer was offering 50 Hz subwoofer crossover frequency selection, where as Yamaha was so short-sighted that they didn't even offer subwoofer crossover frequency selection at all, just a fixed 90 Hz even on their flagship model. Pioneer was also the first brand to offer (on models 45TX and up) fully automatic computerised setup (through the use of a supplied microphone), including tonal equalisation (to the specification of Air Studios of London), thanks to its MCACC feature. They produce highly advanced and robust hi-tech equipment on their Elite line. |
