| I need some serious help! | Andreas Nov 11, 2003 5:01 PM | | I've decided to do HT in the family room.
I need to know what the forum members think of this potential setup.
Fronts-------Paradigm Studio 20's (I own)
Rears--------Paradigm Studio ADP-470's
Center-------Paradigm Studio CC-470's
Subwoofer----Paradigm Seismic Cube
14" cube, 10" woofer, 1500w amp listened to prototype awesome!!
Amp/Surround-Nakamichi 1A-1Z (plan on buying used)
My family Room is 16'L x 13'W x 9'H
I'm I better off buying a new more modern receiver from the likes of Marantz or Denon?
I can get the used Nak at a good price.
I would have to buy a high end Denon or Marantz to compete with the Nak's amps and I still don't think they would compete for music.
I don't need any more then 5.1 or is there something I'm missing out on?
Thx for any input.

| Nakamichi... | Denon_man Nov 11, 2003 6:46 PM | | ...Is dead and buried. So this is a BAD thing for all Nak customers. :(
I own a Denon 2802 which I paid about $650 for from 6ave.com (authorized dealer). It has all the power I need. I'm running a similar system to you in a bigger room and it sounds very good. I normally turn it up to around -23db to get a good volume level.
Here's what I have:
B&W 602 S2 - front
B&W CC6 - center
Klipch SB2 - rear
Velodyne CHT 10 - Sub
If you would like more suggestions, post your budget and just out of curiousity, how much are you getting the Nak for?

| Nakamichi... | Andreas Nov 11, 2003 8:46 PM | | The Nak for 550us in mint shape.
Being new to HT....Do i need all the lastest surround sound technology or is 5.1 enough?
Since I'm only ever going to use 5 speakers (note size of room),
I feel all the extra processing is wasted and the nakamichi will be more then adequate and superior with regards to the amp section.

I'm I wrong on this?
Thx for your reply |
| 5.1 is adequate for your room size | Tarheel_ Nov 12, 2003 6:46 AM | | a few post below will explain why...
if your happy with the Nak, then purchase. The only real feature you may enjoy from a newer receiver is PLII,DTS NEO6,etc...these formats take a standard stereo signal and convert into 5.1 form. Personally, I enjoy the new formats because i watch alot of sports. Dolby EX/DTS ES are useless in a 5.1 setup. So, you may not have a need. If not, go with the Nak.
It appears on paper to be a very nice HT setup, enjoy! Oh, you may want to secure a few breakables before turned that sub loose. |
