What happens if you play a full screen DVD on a widscreen TV? Would there be vertical black bars on the sides of your screen.

Yes, that's what you'd see IF ...

Fortunately, most all "widescreen" TV sets offer the viewer a choice ... whether to watch 4:3 (full screen) material in its "native" ratio (with "bars" on the sides), or to stretch it by a number of different methods. This is one area where certain TV brands outshine others - in just how good their individual "stretch modes" are. Some merely stretch the image horizontally, which makes for some very fat people with very fat faces. Some viewers claim to have gotten used to the look of it ... others just can't. The better stretch modes make some sort of compromise in how much stretching is done and in which plane.

Hope this helps you
