| Small Faces? | Beatlebob May 12, 2001 6:38 AM | | Where is a good place to start? Should I get one of the many "Best Of's" (Probably the safest bet)or just order a cd or 2? |

| The Darlings of my local paper... | dave c May 12, 2001 3:04 PM | | I was born in HAckney and grew up in Ilford which more or less defines the east end of LOndon, the homeground of the Small FAces.
My local paper, the Ilford Recorder used to cover them as local boys made... well something, if not good!
Itchycoo Park is often refered to as being Little Ilford PArk, although I never heard anyone call it that, and by the mid 60s all the (proto)hippies hung out in Cranbrook/Valentines Park (it has a different name at each end!).
Glad to hear about this compilation as I have only one of the cheapos and would like MORE!
It also reminds me of Ronnie Lane and what an influence he was on music, and the sadness of the loss of this man.
I remember that when he was quite ill, and needed treatment that could only be got in America, Rod Stewart was singularily unwilling to help pay, but that the Stones picked up the tab.
Rod had ptreviously commented that Ronnie was the heart and spirit of the Faces.
His records also sound very good today, and are well worth checing out. |
| The Darlings of my local paper... | tony w May 13, 2001 8:28 AM | | I saw the Small Faces at an outdoor show at Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham in '66-'67 maybe. Also on the bill were the Easybeats and the Merseybeats as I was only 10, I remember nothing atall about this except a lot of people and we were quite aways back.
I was also under the impression that Rod payed for all Ronnie's medical expenses, as Im sure you know his Mom had MS for many years.
Ronnie and Steve are sadly missed, Faces, Small Faces, Humble Pie,Slim Chance some of my all time faves.
