| a happy day of CD hunting... | Rae May 12, 2001 8:56 PM | | So, feeling slightly recovered after 14 (14!) hours of sleep last night, I set out to get my hands on a Joy Division album today. Alas, it didn't happen (I couldn't find anything for under $20), but I did come away with a nice haul:
At CD Warehouse, for $28 dollars I got
Lucinda Williams - "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road", $8
Fugazi - "In On the Kill Taker", $9
R.E.M. - "Out of Time", $5
Positive K - "The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills", $5
and at Cheapo, Elvis Costello - "Punch the Clock" for $8, which brings the number left for me to get all of the Ryko reissues to three-- "Goodbye Cruel World", "Blood & Chocolate", and "Grievous Bodily Harm".
So did anyboday else pick up anything good on this fine summer Saturday? |
| re: a happy day of CD hunting... | desade May 12, 2001 10:15 PM | | Nothing today, but yesterday I got China Crisis Collection--The Very Best Of China Crisis, thanks to a lot of you guys on this board. It has not left my CD player yet. I'd always liked the song Working With Fire And Steel but hadn't heard anything else. This is good stuff.
Otherwise, the other day I got At The Drive In, and will be quickly getting rid of that, Damn it's awful.
Now, I'm going to go watch the Tool video my friend bought yesterday and loaned me, see ya. Jeff |
| Had 'em in my hand | ibelafn May 13, 2001 12:20 AM | | Yesterday, based on comments here on the forum over the last several weeks, I picked up Coldplay's _Parachutes_ and from Porcupine Tree, _Coma Divine_. Looking to branch out a little musically. Today at Fry's Electronics, I had the DTS versions of Wings' _Band on the Run_ and Poco's _Crazy Eyes_ in my hands. However, at $25 per title I just couldn't bring myself to part with the money. Many years ago I had the _Band on the Run_ lp and someday it will be replaced. |

| I expect a full Bonnie 'Prince' Billy report | dbi May 13, 2001 9:14 AM | | I've heard at least two songs on the radio and really liked both but reaction to the album seems a little lukewarm so I'm relying on you to give me an honest evaluation before buying. I don't think I'm familiar with the other two new ones.
Guess you already know that almost everyone raves about Kiko. And The Blue Mask is very good too although I haven't spun it in many years. I'd buy just about anything with Lou's name on it back then though :-) I had that Ian Brown album on order at one time from Canada (since it wasn't available here) but decided to cancel it after hearing one of the songs. That first Stone Roses album was soooo good that you would think he must have some of the magic still stored someplace but maybe not. Let me know what you think.

First reaction to the Ian Brown is that although he's drafted in some quality help and there's some great sounds the tunes are pretty forgettable and the lyrics... well, he must be as thick as he looks because they're just unforgivable.
How's your Nick Cave assesment coming along? ;-)
Regards, Chris. |

| re: a happy day of CD hunting...INDEED! | Shkmn May 13, 2001 2:59 PM | | Just today I purchased: Tortoise-STANDARDS MOGWAI-Rock Action Yesterday, picked up new DAFT PUNK. Not normally my dish but heard a few songs and it sounded interesting. This forum is a gold mine as far as I'm concerned. Thanks mostly dbi, that DID link you suggested helped me fill in a few gaps in my search for great music. |
