Anyone Want To Join Us At The "Largest USA Record Show?..."Mary

Supposedly its the largest...held in Austin, TX, each year. More information can be found at www.austinrecords.com.

This year's event is October 5-7, 2001. Hubby and I will be there. Our 21st anniversary will be on the 4th so I am gonna request this trip for "our" anniversary gift.

Would love to meet some of the RR pals that have been developed this last year. Let me know if you'll attend...maybe I could host a hospitality "sweet" with your favorite ale??? If possible, stay through Sunday...I heard the dealers slash prices so that they do not have to carry back the vinyl that is left.

Come on...dbi, Stone, Darius, Rae, Snowbunny, Jim Clark, DustyChalk, and my other friendly board members...plan a vacation & come to Texas. We'll have fun!

You mean LP's? Vinyl? Now what on earth am I gonna do with those. Kidding of course, kinda. My turntable has been hooked to the PC for at least 2 years in a never ending quest to transfer them all to CDR. I'm certain that there is something to the "vinyl mystique" but certainly not with my current turntable and there is no way on earth I'm going to plunk down 500.00+ on a decent unit. Austin does look nice from the highway on our way to South Padre Island, but I can't recall ever stopping. Should proabably change that someday.

As appealing as that sounds, and it is appealing, I wouldn't bet on my being there. My wife doesn't share my enthusiasm of music and HT. You should see her eyes glaze over when the subject comes up. At best, she tolerates my interest. As a recent example: I had just finished programming the universal remote to control everything and I mean everything. Then I discovered she took out the batteries so our boys (6 and 9) could play with the remote! After the 2 hours of playtime, all the codes were gone. Sigh. She just isn't on the same page on this topic.

Cheap vinyl and a trip to lovely Austin, sure wish I could go. I was there for a wedding in '87 - a good friend met a girl from Austin while he was traveling in Europe, they got married in Austin. Needless to say it was a hell of a road trip. Too bad the marriage didn't last as long as my fond memories.

Now if you find a mint condition original British pressing of The Clash - London Calling pick it up for me, would ya?

Oh the memories of record conventions! I would show up and wait in line to be among the first in the door. Clutching a good supply of Tower Records bag to stash my loot, my wallet and pockets stuffed with cash (small bills, and very little showing at any moment...good for negotiating, "um, I see you have this marked $10 but as you can see I only have $8 in my wallet....") and filled with the hopes of finding good deals!

I usually would make a quick scan of the place before making any purchases unless I saw something I couldn't pass up. Then I would return again and again to the same bins watching how the stock sold before making any moves. By the end of the day, and yes, I would stay the whole day, my fingers would have blisters from flipping so many records.

Hone your negotiating skills, Mary, and be ready to bargain!
May have to join you...puffum

Could combine that w/ a trip to see a few old friends who live there.
Sounds like a plan... BTW, Mary, are you the one I suggested Blue Mountain and Marah to a week or so ago? If so, did you get a chance to give either a listen yet?

Puffum, yes I ordered Blue Mountain's Dog Days from half.com. Received it yesterday. Terrific CD! I haven't found a reasonably priced copy yet of Marah's CD but I am searching...

Many thanks for the suggestions. Hope to see you in Austin!

...but I really should be devoting all my spare time to writing and recording my own records. Thanks for the invite, though.
