Albini article on the screw-job state of the music bizDustyChalk

As the discussion of screwing record companies vs. screwing artists has come up in the context of Napster and ripping entire CD's, I thought I would post this link (though I'm not sure what it does for the entire "stealing" debate other than change the subject). I found it interesting.

What I find most ironic is that in any other business (e.g., the movie industry, television), this sort of behavior would cause temper tantrums and swooning. It seems that this sort of behavior only exists in the music industry.

I think any music fan, who knows any musicians, professional or wanna-be's, should find it incumbent upon his or her self to do everything they can to stop them from doing this to themselves, with the same vigor you would, talking to someone about unprotected sex and teenage pregnancy and throwing their life away, or drinking and driving (alright, maybe not that much, but just about!).

Sorry for the F-word, but there really is no better term for it.

Some of your friends are probably already this f*cked
