I got my hands on a promo copy last week and have given it a few spins and really like it. It's more like their first album than Pinkerton. It's only about 28 minutes long, however.

I wasn't blown away, but I liked it. A friend of mine (well, stupidestboy, he posts here sometimes) makes a very good point that half the reason Weezer songs are beloved to us is because we know them so well, so it makes sense that I will probably like this album better once I have been listening to it for a while. Immediate standouts for me at least are "Island in the Sun" and "Knock Down Drag Out". I'm getting annoyed by "Hash Pipe", though. That's a bad sign...
Did you read that kid's highly negative review at Pitchfork?dbi

It was kinda funny because he is only 17 so it's hard for me to take him seriously as he was only 10 when the first Weezer album came out but it's not a badly written review. I've seen some others rate it very highly though, such as www.wallofsound.com and www.nudeasthenews.com. I wonder what the "cut-off age" is for Weezer? I never really thought that much about them but I do sometimes enjoy their music although I don't have either of the previous albums. How old are you Stone?

Dave, maybe too old for Weezer
I hadn't until I saw your post, but now I have.Rae

They don't seem to update in the morning anymore, so I can't read them before work.

I share his sentiments, somewhat, but in a more moderate amount. I don't hate the new record... I like it. I don't love it like I love the other two, at least not yet, but I like it. There are no lies in the review, just maybe different reactions to the facts than I'm having.

You should really own at least Pinkerton, Dave, you can't be too old for that! And plenty of magazines have the blue album on their "essential 90s" lists.

~Rae, too young for Brian Eno?

Dave, I'm 31. Sometimes musically I feel like I'm still 16 though. :) I still listen to a lot of punk and stuff like Weezer, although lately I've been getting into the more "Twilighty" stuff. Your comp is really good.

I did read that review this morning on Pitchfork too and I read the review last week on Nude As the News. Quite different, aren't they?

I agree with Rae that you should get Pinkerton. It's a great album.
