| Depeche Mode's "Exciter" is not so exciting! | JohnG1920 May 15, 2001 6:45 PM | | Bought Depeche Mode's latest opus today "Exciter" and boy is this thing mellow. Absolutely no excitement here. Don't waste your $$$ unless your a diehard fan.
Turns out the first single "Dream On" is really the only good song. The rest are great for chronic insomnia.
A real disappointment.
Glad I didn't buy tickets for their upcoming New York shows.

| Here's what you do... | DustyChalk May 15, 2001 9:14 PM | | Back up a sec...I was just telling someone else that it "kinda sucks", but I wouldn't go so far as to say that there's only one good song on it, I'd say about half of them are "kinda boring". It's reminding me of something else, can't put my finger on it...yes I can, Erasure's _Chorus_. "Chorus" was the only good song on that one... But anyway, here's what you do...you think of it as an EP, burn about half the tracks to another CD...then buy the latest Red Flag single, Melotron album, The Nine, Beborn Beton, Camouflage, etc. I get all my greatest synth-pop information (and CD's) from adifferentdrum.com... |
| Ah ha! | Jim Clark May 16, 2001 8:37 AM | | Adifferentdrum.com, so that's the secret huh? Looks nice and all but no soundclips from the titles. What's up with that? Also, tried to listen in on their web broadcast but can't find the station. Do you know the number?

| I'll have to ask him... | DustyChalk May 16, 2001 11:24 AM | | I don't know what's going on, he talks about sound-clips all the time, but I'm not finding too many either. I found some -- if you click on "Explore A Different Drum's Label" and then navigate to a specific release that way (for example, go to Discography and scroll down to The Nine (blue link)), then _some_ of the releases have sound clips, but not all of them... As to the radio station, no, don't know, but try Resources (in the upper right hand corner, underneath email), and some e-radio stations are mentioned... Sorry I'm not much help, I don't listen to stuff online... |
| re: Depeche Mode's "Exciter" is not so exciting! | snow-san May 18, 2001 7:18 PM | | de/vision-"zehn" (this is a best of/singles comp)..i like all their stuff...imo, next best thing to dm
wolfshiem-"spectators"
vnv nation-"empires"
melotron-"forts...."
beborn beton-"fake" or their remix cd...
disappointed to hear your comments on new dm...i think the guys just enjoy doing it mellow now...throw in their 1 dance tune "i feel loved" ("its no good"), their strong one "dead of night" (barrel of a gun)...god, now that i think about it...is quite similiar to ultra...maybe just not as dark...and its fine w/ me...all these yrs spent listening to so much upbeat newwave, europop, industrial, acid-rock, technorave, dance...
time for mellow...guess why i enjoy classical crossover stuff so much now...these guys are just chillin...hehe...and threw in a couple songs they can get down to...its like there at home having a few drinks w/ there friends playing these songs...they can relax and not have to do so much...and thats cool.....but i'm sure the show you'll miss will surely prove otherwise...i'll be there in atlanta... |
| re: Depeche Mode's "Exciter" is not so exciting! | TWB May 18, 2001 10:30 PM | | The new album is a little more mellow, but that shows diversity of sound to me... I enjoyed listening and will continue to do so.... |
| EXCITER is starting to GROW on me! | JohnG1920 May 19, 2001 7:21 AM | | After listening to Exciter for the past few days a few songs on the cd are pretty good.
I like:
Dream On... the first single does sound good on Radio.
The Sweetest Condition
The Dead Of Night
I Feel Loved ...this may be the best song on the cd.
very good DM.
I Am You.
so it turns out this is a DM release that has to grow on you. Doesn't hit you over the head like the great MUSIC FOR THE MASSES or VIOLATOR.
