| So, hey, the White Stripes are pretty good. | Rae Aug 22, 2001 3:53 PM | | I should just let you guys buy all of my albums from now on. What with Joe Henry last month and the White Stripes this month, y'all will probably be responsible for two out of my top three albums of the year (although I hold out high hopes for the upcoming Björk, Aphex Twin, Tori Amos, and Dismemberment Plan releases [overload!!!]).
I'll have more to say about White Blood Cells after I spin it some more this weekend, but man is it good! Thanks for the rec Darius (and dbi, but that usually goes without saying for everything I like).

| Like, duh. | Darius Aug 22, 2001 4:22 PM | | My current favorite song on the album is The Union Forever. This album continues to hold up for me, and I've been spinning it a lot. We should try to target a non-indie-rocker on this board to check these guys out. I think their music is quite accessable. NP: Nothing WIWP: The Sugarcubes - Life's Too Good |
| I like "Union" too. | Rae Aug 22, 2001 8:07 PM | | It's kind of Violent Femmes-y. Right now I'd have to say the track I've been humming the most is "Fell in Love With a Girl". Very spastic...

| You Rang? | Mary Aug 23, 2001 5:10 AM | | I don't know whether I should be classified
as a non-indie rocker but I have been
tryin' to purchase this one locally and not
on line. I have struck out so far. If I
cannot find this weekend, I'll order online.
Once I receive, I'll try to post a review (I
am not doing too well in the "Post a Review"
category). If nothing else I'll post whether
I like it and which songs stood out.
Thanks for the rec, Darius & dbi,

| Hold on a minute there, Honky Tonk Texas Sweetheart | dbi Aug 23, 2001 7:03 AM | | Leave my name outta this one. It's true that I mentioned the album a couple times before Darius and Rae, and might have even said that I thought it was one of the best I had heard this year, but they're the ones making the rec here. I'm just kinda standing on the sidelines, quietly mumbling something like "Are you sure this is a good album to recommend to EVERYBODY, guys?".
Dave (the cautious one who has learned his lesson about recommending albums to EVERYBODY, especially sloppy, blusey, infectious garage rock like this :-)) |
| I'll have to check them out. Thanks. | Stone Aug 22, 2001 4:55 PM | | They look to be right up my alley. I've been reading some articles about them and got on their website today too coincidentally. Looks like they have 3 full lengths out. Also, I've seen some comparisons to The Strokes, which is a definite plus in my book.
I hadn't even heard of them before dbi's post about them and they're from my own state of Michigan. They're definitely on my list. Thanks for the rec Rae, Darius, and dbi.
