| Finch, I've posted diatribes similar to yours here out of frustration in trying to get people to listen to new music. It seems one has to give away recordings to get people to give it a listen. Why I don't know. Perhaps people are too busy, or perhaps it's because most new music IS crap and not worth seeking out. A while ago I was in the CDR comps trading game. I did receive some extraordinary new music and put the best of it on a comp I call Cream of the Comps. I sold my CDR to YECHY, but if you want to trade MiniDiscs it's yours. As to our point about remastering old stuff: I've got everything in my collection from Victor Feldman (50s jazz) to Underworld type techno fun. But, when I want to listen to Rock n Roll I invariaby put on some od stuff like Grand Funk or Lucifer's Friend, the Who and Yes etc. Why, because I'd rather listen to the original originators than some contrived, derivative, facsimile. Do I get tired of it? No, because there was SO much really good music made between 1965 & 75 that the listening choice are plentiful, and I'm always free to listen to other genres and newer stuff too. Yet it's the music from 65 to 75 that I keep going back to and enjoying the most; but hey, that's just me and I'm old ;) Yes I would gladly buy remastered versions of some of my favorites. For example, yesterday I played the Rascals CD of their spiritually inspired album titled Peaceful World. There has never been a piece of music like the 21 minute title track, yet the sound of this album is dreadful. I would derive even greater pleasure from this fine music if it did have good sound, but alas, it's a miracle such an obscure album was ever released on CD in the first place, so I wont hold my breath waiting for a remasterred version. Let me know if your intersted in trading comps; I'd be very interested in hearing what you think is really good NEW music. CM The Cosmic Message: http://www.actionnet.net/stars |
