| Saw X last night | desade Aug 26, 2001 8:49 AM | | Great show! That had a lot of energy, didn't really do any talking just played one song after the next. Covered almost all of the 1st album (left out Sex and Dying in High Society, one of my faves off that album), As well as a lot of stuff from Wild Gift, Under the Big Black Sun and More Fun In The New World.
Billy Zoom was in fine form, striking his pose and occasionally pulling out some Binaca to freshen his breath. John Doe and Exene's off-key harmonies were excellent, and DJ Bonebrake pounded the s#*^t out of the skins.
I would highly recommend seeing them if you're even the slightest fan, the music was still pretty fresh and never really came across like some lame rehash, BS, greatest hits tour. They were a lot of fun.

| I'm envious | Jim Clark Aug 26, 2001 9:39 AM | | My last X show was in '85 at the Kansas Union Ballroom in Lawrence, KS. That was a very long time ago. One of the many drawbacks of living here is that the music scene ain't exactly what one might hope for. Of course I can afford a house here that we'd never be able to live in in a different part of the country. Win some, lose some.
What was the venue? I can't imagine it being anything too big except maybe in LA. Any opening band?

| I'm envious | desade Aug 26, 2001 4:10 PM | | It was at the Ogden theatre in Denver. An old renovated (somewhat) movie theatre that maybe holds 1500 ( anyone know for sure? I'm just guessing)
The opening band was a local one called Jux County. They've been around forever, didn't see them though.
One of the cool things about this was, I went with my best friend from down the street growing up and his little sister and her husband. He and I got into punk together through skateboarding and played in some bands together. Hadn't seen him or her in 10-12 years, so it was really great in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, I had never seen X before, bailed out one time when he was going back in about 82-83. But he said it was ALMOST as good as the 1st time. |
