Aug 26, 2001 12:30 PM | | Paging dbi, RPM, Troy, Dave G, Darius, BradH, Yech, Misnomer, Mary, Snowbunny, Jim Clark, Stone, Chip B, and other regulars that have made comps here, here's yet another comp idea I'd like to get your opinions on and see if you're interested in contributing. The comp might be titled: "Rave Recs Greatest Discoveries" or just "Rave Recs Discoveries" and the idea is to have everyone contribute ONE track from a compilation they received from someone else, a track you had previously not heard by a group or artist you were unfamiliar with but it impressed you so much you've gone out and bought that artist's full CD or you plan to soon. For myself, although I haven't narrowed it down to one track yet, my choice could possibly be Merchants of Venus (from Troy's Quirky Pop), or maybe Plum (from Brad H's Texas Clubland comp). Both these groups I had not previously known of prior to getting Troy's and Brad H's comps and I consider these groups to be very nice assets to my collection and would spend money on their future releases- so this is the idea I'm going for with this comp. I believe this would be a very cool compilation! If you're interested in contributing, you can email me for more details and the logistics, etc. |

Aug 26, 2001 1:54 PM | | to dump on a comp idea. It's getting ugly, my addiction that is. Well, scoring a comp is safer than scoring crystal meth (I'm assuming!).
Looking at DBI's page while I have tons and tons, my comp list is not nearly comprehensive so I may yet discover more hidden treasures,which is the name of the game.
I'll email you with my choice-it's fairly easy for me.

Aug 27, 2001 8:02 AM | | I kind of did this with my Pagiaristic Pastiche comp (on comp-4-trade) , but it would be more interesting from a group standpoint. I have a choice in mind, but was wondering how we could ensure that the comp doesn't favor one person. Simply based on the # of comps dbi puts out, this one may end up being 50% dbi tunes. Not that that's bad, but maybe we could put a limit of 3 songs from any given user?
Or maybe I should just shut up and let this thing play out and see what happens. :-)
