Relaxin' on Christmas Eve with Mike's Chill Mixdbi
Dec 24, 2001 2:59 PM
Just got back from some last minute stocking stuffer shopping with a bag full of candy and panties and socks and other goodies to fill my honeypie's stocking and found a Christmas present in my mailbox from Mike H. titled Chill Mix so grabbed a cold bottle of Spaten Premium and plopped the CD in my player, placed the big brass weight on top and settled back for some cool tunes. Man, this is a great set of tunes for the holidays! Really lets you wind down. Starts off with a Kid Loco remix which is A-double OK in my book and then follows up with some Groove Armada and Dusted and Theivery Corporation and Talvin Singh and on and on. Great stuff. Thanks Mike (and for the Eliza Carthy, too) and Merry Christmas to you :-)

Dave

p.s. another very impressive cover and liner notes - let me see if I can scan it in so everyone can appreciate your work - click here to see the cover.
Mike H's trademark cover art thumbnails are always a nice touchRPM

Sounds like a cool comp, and great artwork there Mike. Hey Dave have another Spatten on me ;-). I'd join you, but I'm too stuffed with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

The kids are all nestled snug in their bed, so it's time for me to go don the Santa cap and start spreading gifts under the tree.

NP (in the carousel on shuffle):
1) The Nutcracker
2) Todd H's Christmas in Summer comp
3) All Things Must Pass (disc 1)
4) Some generic classic Christmas music sampler
5) BillB's Starsailer sampler comp

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Rick

Glad to see it's got the dbi seal of approval cos I'm trading it for filler/killer which I should be mailing to you in the next couple of days.

Love that cover art. I'm a real novice in that department. Maybe we could have a thread on that in the future?

Oh yeah and Mike, you need to get ALL of Nick Drake's stuff :-) The compilations that I've listened to just don't do the albums justice. The ultimate bummer.. to be famous and respected after you've snuffed it :-(

Regards, Chris.

I put that on just about everything these days so it doesn't mean much, but this one is truly excellent! I even played it Christmas morning and Cora liked it too :-)

Mike did ask me a couple weeks ago or so about the recent Nick Drake remasters and how they sound, but I forgot to answer I think. In any case, all three of the albums are worth getting in complete form as Chris says if you only have a compilation and the sound is pretty good, but I had such a hodgepodge before getting the three remasters that it's hard to make meaningful comparisons. They definitely sound better than the Rykodisc Way To Blue collection but everything Ryko does sounds kinda bad. I don't have any of the original CDs, only a couple on vinyl. There doesn't seem to be much tape noise that I can recall which was one of your concerns but I don't usually pay much attention to that unless it's very bad and I don't think the Ryko collection is noisy either. I'll try to do another listen in the next couple days and answer your e-mail, Mike.

Dave
