| Atom Heart Mother suite.. | Haoleb Dec 26, 2001 6:23 PM | | OK, I really like this recording by Pink floyd, and im not sure what album its on? whats it called? Is that the name of the cd? Thanks |
| Atom Heart Mother | DustyChalk Dec 26, 2001 9:30 PM | | ...is, indeed, the name of the album from which that is culled. And there are three other tracks from that album which are really good, too. You may also want to check out Wish You Were Here and Animals. And Obscured By Clouds. I have been totally entranced with Black Heart Procession of late. Find some samples if you can. You like Golden Earring? Their albums got remastered recently. Haven't picked any up, yet, but will be starting with Moontan and Cut, two classics, IMHO. Those were just a couple off the top of my head. |
| OK, I read it (Yech you should read this too) | Jim Clark Dec 27, 2001 3:21 AM | | first off, if you like Pink Floyd and don't own a copy of The Wall, well, shame on you. By putting it off, you can now get the remastered version and it may be HDCD too but I'm not positive.
You've got some good suggestions there but a little problem. I like Demetrio's suggestion of The Gathering but I think you'd be very hard pressed to find it at Borders but it's worth looking into. From Yech's list I'd certainly look into the Burnside release. I don't have it yet but if it's anything like the previous CD it's a must have. I wish someone would review that CD on this forum. Yech, you reading this? Make yourself useful.

| Pink Floyd | Haoleb Dec 27, 2001 9:14 AM | | Well, i never really heard Pink Floyd until just about 3 weeks ago when i got the ecoes cd. I wasnt sure if i would like it or not, but.. and like it no, i LOVED it.. how could i have been living all these years without knowing of this band? And yes, lastnight i was at amazon looking at what records they have and i have to get The wall remastered version and wish you were here. Now i just hope they have it when i go to borders today. I will look into those ther bands too. Thanks |
| I don't think you read it with the discerning eye that I did | DustyChalk Dec 27, 2001 10:52 PM | | Or maybe that's myopic...possibly even jaundiced...at least jaded...anyway, never mind... The guy's PinkFloyd tastes appear to be "old school", with the long drawn-out epic tracks ("Echoes", "Atom Heart Mother Suite", etc.). The Wall was a departure for them, and the beginning of Roger Waters' epic story-telling divided-and-conquered through suites of smaller songs, more like musicals (also inc. Pro's and Con's of Hitch-hiking through Amused to Death, and The Final Cut). Hence, I deliberately left out The Wall and more heartily recommended the older material. |
| Okie dokie Ollie | YECH Dec 28, 2001 5:50 PM | | You betcha Jimbo

| Any favorite Pink Floyds? | You're missing a couple | DustyChalk Jan 2, 2002 9:12 PM | | Offhand: There's another David Gilmour album, About Face, from 1984. Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports with a whole host of guests from Carla Bley to Robert Wyatt; an excellent take on Philip Glass called "I'm a Mineralist"; the unforgettable "Boo to You Too"; the gorgeous "Hot River"...if you can't tell, I love this completely underrated album. This is a must-have for Pink Floyd completists. The unorthodox (read: jazzy) chord-progressions take some getting used to if you've never heard anything like it before, but I was familiar with Carla Bley. I thought this also came from 1978 (DG's DG and RW's WD), but AMG says 1981...maybe that's when it started...(shrugs)... Mason/Fenn - Profiles - from the same period as David Gilmour's About Face...and similarly not as good. Rick Wright - Broken China -- from right after the Division Bell period. They have a couple of tracks on the Zabriskie Point soundtrack (variations on "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" -type material, basically). Roger Waters also has an album with Ron Geesin called The Body which was disgust...erm...discussed here recently (was that a homonym or a Freudian slip?). You should look up the discussion before running out and getting it. I will get it one of these days, just...not yet. |
| You're missing a couple, But 1 less. | GTF Jan 4, 2002 4:55 PM | | Thanks for letting me know about the others. I do also have Nick Masons-Fictitious Sports. But I don't think I've listened to it yet. I have a few albums bought years ago that I still haven't opened. As for RW and Ron Geesin I thought I had that one already, but it looks like I didn't. But I buy it. GTF |
