| 2001 and 12-song comps up for trade | Rae Dec 31, 2001 10:42 AM | | I don't mean to steal ibelafn's thunder, but I think that these will be the VERY last comps of the year.
The first is a year-end comp that I've been messing around with for a few weeks. You know how it is, you put together a comp and it's just vaguely dissatisfying, so you keep tweaking little things until it's just right... that kind of thing. In any case, I think it works now. Here's the track listing:
1. John Hartford - "Indian War Whoop"
2. Love as Laughter - "Temptation Island"
3. Spoon - "The Fitted Shirt"
4. Björk - "Cocoon"
5. TransChamps - "The Big Machine"
6. Fugazi - "Epic Problem"
7. Built to Spill - "Strange"
8. The White Stripes - "Fell in Love With a Girl"
9. Ani DiFranco - "What How When Where"
10. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Spread Your Love"
11. The Shins - "New Slang"
12. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - "Timorous Me"
13. Low - "Laser Beam"
14. Juno - "High Noon"
15. Mark Mallman & Vermont - "Symphony No. 9"
16. Rilo Kiley - "August"
17. Guided by Voices - "The Brides Have Hit the Glass"
18. The Strokes - "Hard to Explain"
19. Ben Folds - "Not the Same"
20. The Dismemberment Plan - "Time Bomb"
21. Summer Hymns - "The Daybreak"
22. Radiohead - "Like Spinning Plates"
23. Work of Saws - "Tangerines and Blue Cheese"
I'm already sending this one to the following people because I owe them or just because: dbi, Stone, maf, cc, Jim Clark, RPM, Ms. Nomer, MasonJar, Rick H, audiobill, bradc, Mr. MidFi, Buzz, and nobody.
The other one is a comp that I put together for Rick's 12 song challenge. I call it "12 Gracious Melodies."
1. Ted Leo - "You Could Die (Or This Might End)"
2. Guided by Voices - "Blimps Go 90"
3. The Shins - "The Weird Divide"
4. Elvis Costello & the Attractions - "The Imposter"
5. The Sandwiches - "2222 Nicollet Avenue"
6. The White Stripes - "Little Room"
7. Work of Saws - "West Franklin"
8. Wire - "Champs"
9. Le Tigre - "Les and Ray"
10. Weezer - "I Do"
11. The Descendents - "No, All!"
12. The Beatles - "Her Majesty"
This one's already going out to Rick H, MasonJar, and dbi.
Email me at wobert12@yahoo.com if you're interested in either disc. Trades appreciated unless you're one of the people who I already owe.
That's it.
Happy New Year, babies!

NP: Dealership - TV Highway to the Stars... got this one in the mail on Monday. Thanks for the rec, Jim, I dig it! I have a question, though: how can you like this but not like Ozma? NP: "Domesticated"
PS. I lost a lot of my address book, guys, so don't be offended if I email you asking for your address even though we've traded before! |

| they look great! | Masonjar Dec 31, 2001 12:38 PM | | Man, the way it's going I won't have to buy any White Stripes, Built to Spill, Fugazi or Dismemberment Plan, from all the comps I'll almost have the entire albums! :) Thanks Rae, you'll be getting some stuff from me too, I can't let you get even with me...lol ;)

| Rae, Rae, Rae | Jim Clark Dec 31, 2001 3:17 PM | | Haven't you noticed by now that I'm not the most consistent guy around in terms of what I enjoy. No rhyme or reason required. Actually, I hope I didn't say I hate Ozma in the review, listening now it doesn't suck by any means. Still, something about it has me not wanting to run out and buy it. Some possible reasons could include:
After Le Tigre, nothing else on that comp had a prayer of standing out.
In your description, you tie Ozma with Weezer. KOD (kiss of death).
While it is similar in many regards, Ozma lacks the really hot asian babe.
"Toujours Ta Fille" got inside my head. It remains a very catchy little number that I can listen to over and over. Neither of the Ozma songs had that effect. For Dealership, 'Toujours' was the first song I heard. It had an impact
finally, I found out about Dealership on my own. I'm very proud of my growth. Glad you like it Rae. And thanks for thinking of me come comp time. I usually find something to buy off yours.
vive Le Rock
