| Damn, Beulah's The Coast Is Never Clear is good... | Stone Jan 3, 2002 5:10 PM | | After my first several listens to The Coast Is Never Clear, I thought it was really good. Now I think it's one of the best of 2001 and I just can't get enough of it. It really took me a lot of listens to really get into this big time, but it's now seriously addictive. Great pop melodies and wonderfully cynical lyrics like:
Just because he loves you too
He wouldn't ever take a bullet for you
Don't believe a word he says
He wouldn't ever cut his heart out for you
I heard he wrote you a song for you
But so what
Some guy wrote 69
One just ain't enough
And there's no sense in him tryin'
I know 'cause I've been tryin' all the time
To find a song that would make you mine
But all I ever find, my love
Are cliches that don't rhyme
Nice little Magnetic Fields reference there. Go E6 go.

| boo, boo Magnetic Fields name-check. | Rae Jan 3, 2002 5:28 PM | | As I've remarked before, I think that lyric is really forced. Beulah sucks!
Aww.
Just playin' with ya. I really do like the album too and even that song. My favorites off of the album are "A Good Man is Easy to Kill," "Gravity's Bringing Us Down," and "Hey Brother." It's hard to listen to that record and not be in a good mood.
Go E6 go!

| Blah, blah, blah. | Stone Jan 3, 2002 6:20 PM | | Did you say something, Rae?? Oh, you did. How insightful.... Just kidding. :-)
I like that lyric, so poo on you. I think it's cool, even though it may be a bit forced - especially since I really like 69 Love Songs. My favorites change periodically and I really like the whole album, but I still think "A Good Man Is Easy To Kill" is probably my favorite. God, those lyrics are great.

| Very Weird... | maf Jan 3, 2002 9:53 PM | | ...I was listening to this album...again, at work and today and I thought; "gee, I should post about how great this album is." Thanks for saving me the trouble Stone :0). I was going to ask how the previous album, (what's it called?), compares...any opinions? BTW, I like that lyric too, and my favorite track so far is "A Good Man is Easy to Kill" :0).

| When Your Heartstrings Break | Rae Jan 4, 2002 6:30 AM | | IMO, Heartstrings is better than Coast. If you like Beulah, don't think twice about getting it.
"If We Can Land a Man on the Moon Then Surely I Can Win Your Heart" = best Beulah song ever
Do you have Dave's Indie Rock comp? I believe there was a track from Heartstrings ("Emma Blowgun's Last Stand") on that one.
Where's Swish on this thread?

| I'm right here Rae, in sunny (BS!) Cleveland. I agree with you. | Swish Jan 4, 2002 7:20 AM | | Had to make a quick trip out here, and damn is it cold. Anyhoot, I still like Heartstrings a lot more, but Coast is growing on me. I'm still smiling since seeing them live and was very pleased they played more tracks from Hearstrings than Coast, which I had only heard a couple time prior to the show. I hope they stick around and record a few more records. Good stuff. |
| Thanks for the rec, Rae and Swish... | Stone Jan 4, 2002 7:28 AM | | I was going to pick up When Your Heartstrings Break eventually, but now I think I'll move it up on my list. Sometime back I downloaded an MP3 of "If We Can Land a Man..." and it is outstanding.
Have either of you heard their first album? (they only have three, right?)
