I'd always wanted to go the Plextor route. Very fine drives if you go the PC route, arguably the best drives. Then I discovered that Plextor actually makes the TDK Velo series. Here's a very recent review (no old news) of the drive I ended up buying the TDK 12/10/32a http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,55944,00.asp

Comp USA has this drive for 79.00 through today (Saturday). This requires a 50.00 rebate through TDK- BUT - based on my CDR media rebates, TDK actually sends rebate checks out.

I'd had my heart set on Plextor for sometime but for 79.00 on a drive so highly recomended, it was an easy change of heart.

Good luck with whatever route you go.
