Carol King: Tapestry (remastered)#LB
Aug 27, 2001 8:36 AM
Legacy, a subsidiary of Sony, has releases a large number of re-issues the last couple of years. I have mentioned the two Kansas re-issues here. And now I own Carol King's Tapestry.

I have a copy of the first regular issue, but rarely played it because it sounded so sh!tty. But this re-issue has dynamics a plenty. I heard things on this re-issue that just aren't very audible on the old issue. Will You Love Me Tomorrow, sounds great, and hey..that's James Taylor on backing vocal. Ironically this song follows You've Got A Friend. This Legacy re-issue is like the others; containing previously unreleased material. One song, Out In The Cold, should have replaced the song Tapestry (the only boring song on this album). It could've served as single and done quite well (back when they did singles). The other bonus track is a live version of Smackwater Jack, and its a gem. Its features only King and her piano, and given the time period ('73), comes off like an unplugged session. Very well recorded live song.

If you don't already own this album on CD, this is the one to buy; and if you do own it on a previously released issue, but don't listen to it, buy this remaster. If you're a big fan of AM radio sound, then keep your old 8-track copy, if you're player still works.
