This in from the Kansas City Star, so it must be true. My sister actually got my Mother the book for Christmas, I get to borrow it today. From what I gather, he is coming out in January based on favorable numerology signs??? Can't wait. I hear the book is fairly weak on proof (surprised?). Among the clues is the fact that his name is misspelled on the tombstone. On the grave it lists his middle name as Aaron rather than Aron or vice versa. The good doc also claims to be able to prove it with DNA once The King outs himself.
On a weird little twist, my Mother actually attended Med School with the good Doctor Hinton. According to her he is a very bright stand up kind of guy and she doesn't believe that he is pulling a hoax on purpose. Most of the Clark family thinks that someone, most likely a group of people, are yanking the Doctor around pretty convincingly. It's currently our opinion that Doctor Hinton really believes he is treating the King of Rock And Roll. I guess stranger things have happened. 2002 ought to start out weird enough.

The point man behind the Elvis-is-still-alive talk ...would you believe local psychiatrist Don Hinton?
As a practicing physician, Hinton understandably prefers to keep a low profile. Especially since he swears he's treating the King for pain, including prescription drugs.
Hinton's new self-published book, The Truth About Elvis Aron Presley: In His Own Words (American Literary Press, $12.95), claims the Big E staged his death in 1977 to preserve what was left of his failing health and finances. He then assumed his deceased brother's name -- "Jesse" -- and went underground.
"The only reason this book even exists is this is all part of his plan to tell the truth," Hinton says of Elvis (or Jesse). "The truth is coming out in 2002. He's going to be coming forward, so people know this is his true story."
A little history.
"I've known him for 10 years," says Hinton, who practices at a private clinic in eastern Jackson County and at Independence Regional Health Care Center. "But for five years I've been his physician and treated him in secret. And we're part of a big television program that's going to be aired on CNN in January."
The bottom line: "This is totally real and it's going to affect my life," Hinton says. "I'm doing this for him because he asked me to."
Cowtowner/Elvis second cousin Jerry Presley is not only a believer, but he also says he's met with Elvis.
"Elvis doesn't want to be Elvis again," Presley says. "He just wants his fans to know the truth. He just wants to live out his life a very simple life.
Former Kansas Citian Jack Soden, the head of Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis, Tenn., is a tad skeptical.
"We, of course, have become somewhat accustomed to `cousins' appearing all over the place," Soden says. "The fact that this one is personally in touch with Elvis is great stuff. Next year will be the 25th anniversary of the passing of Elvis, and already we are seeing a marked increase in anticipated `shocking, new revelations!' "
Hinton stands behind his claims.
"You see Jesse has nothing to do with all that anymore," Hinton says of Graceland and the Elvis Empire. "You have to understand a lot of people are making a lot of money off the myth that he's no longer alive. And they do not want this man coming back."
The reason an actual doctor would lend his name and reputation to such an kooky-sounding story:
"He (Elvis) wanted my name on the book because people would believe a physician more so than somebody who didn't have an M.D. at the end of his name," Hinton says. "But there are people out there, very powerful people, who are so angry that the truth is coming out. There are people who have threatened me. But it was proved to me that he is Elvis Presley without a shadow of a doubt."
Hinton's book is available on Amazon.com and at Rainy Day Books in Fairway. |
