| Bill Wyman's Blues Odyssey | ChipB Dec 29, 2001 7:39 PM | | Great show...wish I would've caught it from the beginning. Format was mostly Wyman talking about his influences and experiences with a commentator and some of the Blues legends themselves. He had very relaxed conversations with Buddy Guy, BB King, Big Bill Morganfield (Muddy's son), and others. The stories were great (Wyman's description of Brian Jones' first experience hearing "Dust My Broom" was a classic) and the music was unmatched. The clips were phenomenal: a mix of live and studio/TV performances by Lightnin' Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy together, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Son House, T-Bone Walker, and many others.
Quality stuff...I sure hope they re-run it.

| I have no Bravo.But I do have a tip | YECH Dec 30, 2001 5:12 AM | | Don't get Bravo up here.Sounds like I missed a good one.
I did read a glowing review of the Robert Johnson DVD Hellhound On My Trail.Roy Rogers sits in on guitar to explain the playing of RJs tunes and a variety of bands play RJs songs. It sounds like a real keeper.
Except I still don't have a DVD player!!!!!
A bluzy new year to all
gotta run

| DVD | ChipB Dec 31, 2001 8:04 AM | | I looked for the Roy Rogers DVD at Best Buy, but couldn't find it. Reckon I'll have to try online.
I did pick up Stevie Ray's Live at the el Macambo DVD, but haven't watched it yet. A buddy told me it's superb, so I'm looking forward to watching/listening. Having seen him a couple of times, I'm hopeful that the el Macambo show captured him at his peak.

| SRV DVD | Ms. Nomer Dec 31, 2001 1:32 PM | | Yeah, the SRV DVD is all about the incredible performance but the video is soft and the audio isn't too good either. Do yourself a favor and skip the DD track. The PCM track is better though there's very little stereo spread. But that performance of "Texas Flood" is worth the price of the disc alone. |
| New SRV material | WStan Jan 3, 2002 11:11 AM | | Anyone get the new Montreux festival release on CD? Blues Revue liked the 1982 festival debut performance (notwithstanding the unenthusiastic crowd) but said the 1985 performance was stellar. |
| Caught the rerun this morning, 11-noon CST | DLD Dec 30, 2001 11:05 AM | | Didn't even know it was on. we're drinking coffee and flipping and there it was. I guess we caught the last 45-50 minutes. Fantastic, with a capital F!! Favorite part was the discussion of the origins of Dust Broom Blues. |
| Great book, too! | BT3 Dec 31, 2001 5:41 AM | | Sorry I missed this. However, please note that Bill Wyman's Blues Odyssey is also a great book. Actually I recieved this as a gift from my brother for Christmas. Haven't been able to put it down since. A very high quality DK publication.

| Great book, too! | ChipB Dec 31, 2001 7:59 AM | | Thanks for the heads up on the book; I'll probably get a copy. I was very impressed with Wyman's knowledge and first hand experience with the Blues and its performers and the show was fascinating.

| Thanks!! Caught the last 45 minutes..... | audiobill Dec 31, 2001 12:21 PM | | Thanks-a-ton, Chip.
I managed to catch the last 45 mins., yesterday afternoon. I will definitely try to view the first half, as I found the manner of Wyman's interviewing skills fascinating. Certainly, he is able to get into the blues performers' minds in ways others, with less credibility, can.
Happy New Year,
