Ms. Nomer's Quick & Dirty Comp ReviewRickH

When a comp takes me by surprise and seems to have almost no "skippers" on it, I like to let folks here know. I got this in the mailbox yesterday, put it on, set back and, wow! A very superb and well-chosen set of tunes here, Ms. Nomer, that flows really nice. Two particular artists that basically jumped out of the speakers and had me looking at your track list to see who they were: Chris Cornell and Bob Mould. Man, these are two great tracks, especially the Mould track. Where has this guy been? Other artists on this comp include Sunny Day Real Estate, Built to Spill, Pavement, Dave Navarro, The White Stripes, Porky Tree, Mercury Rev, and more. I think the thing that most impresses me about this comp is the quality of the songwriting on just about everything on it. It's sort of a "head" disc without getting spacey- it's easy to get lost in these tracks. Frequent Rotation Rating- 5 out of 5 stars. NP- "Jesus Crux" - Greta (from this comp)
Good job, Ms. Nomer! Hope there's a Quick & Dirty, Vol. 2.
Wow! And to think I put almost no thought into it!Ms. Nomer

Just goes to show, go with your instincts and don't second guess those instincts. Honestly, the only songs I knew I wanted to use ahead of time were the White Stripes and Mr. Bungle tracks. I do all of my compiling on my single-disc stand-alone recorder on R/W and then make a CD-R "master" on the PC (my hard-drive died soon after this comp, ironically, but I'm in the process of building a real system...real circa 2002, that is). Point is, I think, being "forced" to listen in real-time makes for better comps and just feels more natural...it's just like making cassette comps. Glad you like it :-). BTW, I've been thinking of throwing together Beatles-esque, indie-metal, and prog-metal comps. I've got tons of songs in mind for each but maybe it would be better to start a thread when the time comes so I don't miss anything that's painfully obvious to everyone but me.
That sounds every bit as good as...Mr. MidFi

...the comp I got from Ms. Nomer, his comp-4-trade discoveries/comp rip-off disc. Which, by the way, is the absolute BEST comp I have ever received from anyone. Period. (No offense, RickH...I liked your Masters of Power Pop 3 too!)
