| COLIN BASS... | BarryL Jan 1, 2002 1:41 PM | | Yes indeed. A great album. If you like the more mellow and folksy side of Camel at all, then you'll love this album. I has a very Camel feeling to it. Let's hope he continues to produce works of this quality. |
| Silver Jews - American Water | Stone Jan 1, 2002 6:45 AM | | I picked this up last night. It was recommended over the new one by the owner of the store I frequent. It's the first thing I've heard by these guys, and I must say upon first listen, I think we have a winner. Great stuff.

NP: Television - s/t (also a new one to me) |
| Do you have dbi's Alt Country Comp? If so, the Silver Jews are on it. | Swish Jan 1, 2002 7:55 AM | | The track "The Wild Kindness" is on it, and includes Stephen Malkmus, who left to form Pavement some years back (I'm sure dbi will correct me if I'm fogetting something along the way). I really do need to get some of their stuff. And I really think you'll like Television, with the combined talents of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd. Their guitar interplay is incredible. |
| Yes, and I didn't remember that they were on it. | Stone Jan 1, 2002 9:30 AM | | That track must not have made a huge impression on me, but there is so much good stuff on that comp, maybe it just got lost in the shuffle. Ugh, just too much to keep track of.
So far I really like the Silver Jews album a lot though. I knew Malkmus was a part of the Silver Jews, and he contributes on American Water but I guess he didn't take part in the most recent album.
Yeah, that Television album sounds great too. I've had Marquee Moon a while, but never invested in their self-titled release until now.
Thanks for the info.

| I'm only laughing at your spelling | DustyChalk Jan 2, 2002 9:20 PM | | It's "McLachlan", I believe. Can't get the vowels right, but the rest of it is easy for me to remember, because I think "heavy Irish brogue"...no, she's not, but it makes it easier for me to remember... Mine was Ganymede, I believe. First words I (over)heard in 1984 was (from one girl to another, apparently having "domestic" trouble): "You love him". Now that is ironic. Or coincidental. |
| Guy Lombardo. That's a joke, actually, it was Galactic, the | Swish Jan 1, 2002 7:58 AM | | "We Love em Tonight" Live CD. My house was really rocking at that point. |

| I just woke up (11:00 AM) so I haven't spun anything yet | RPM Jan 1, 2002 9:29 AM | | I'm sitting here at the PC with a cup of coffee catching up on board events and e-mail. I've got a home improvement type project to tackle today so I'm sure the tunes will be flowing shortly, but right now it's damn quiet here (the family is still asleep). I think I'll put my Christmas booty in the carousel player and hit shuffle. I'll let you know what comes up first... Here's what I picked up for Christmas: All Things Must Pass (30th anniversary) Phantom Power - Tragically Hip Maverick A Strike - Finley Quaye Combustication - Modeski, Martin & Wood The Ecleftic - Wyclef Jean I think I'm also gonna throw on BillB's Starsailor sampler comp again. Happy New Year all! Rick |

| I watched football and worked on my van | 3-LockBox Jan 2, 2002 10:19 AM | | Tennessee killed Michigan; I thought it would be a close game, but it looks like it was a bad year for the Big Ten to take on the SEC. It was a nice pick-me-up after a night of partying. |
| It's 3:00 P.M. Jan. 1, 2002 and appropriately enough | maf Jan 1, 2002 12:05 PM | | Newness Ends by The New Year is spinning on the TT. I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Never heard Bedhead, but I think I should check some of their stuff out...Is it like this album?
If memroy serves the first disc up in the caroussel after the strike of midnight was Emmylou Harris - Wrecking Ball.
The first album I put on today was one I just bought yesterday...
The White Stripes - De Stijl.
Happy New Year all.

| Beethoven's Pastorale Symphony | Pat D Jan 1, 2002 2:49 PM | | Beethoven's Symphony no. 6 with Otmar Suitner conducting the Berlin Staatskapelle on Denon 198C37-7255. We'd stayed up quite late last night and I thought this was something cheery to start the day. |
| A frozen dinner in my Kenmore microwave. And... | Dave M Jan 1, 2002 11:34 PM | | I have to say that, while the overall presentaion was on the warm side, the top end exhibited some hotness and the bottom end was a bit soggy. Whether this is the fault of the platter in question or the hardware--who can say? |
| Soul Brother Number One | Rae Jan 2, 2002 6:46 AM | | We had a party over at our place, and after the ball dropped and all of the Auld Lang Syneing was done, the CD changer randomly picked JB's "Sex Machine, Pt. 1". It got everyone dancing-- a great way to start a year.

| It was noon on the 1st, when I dragged myself out of bed | Darius Jan 2, 2002 8:07 AM | | and the first disc I put on was the one I had in my player from before I left my apartment to go out on the prior evening, which was Blur's Modern Life is Rubbish. I quickly realized, however, that this manic pop music did not sound that great with a hangover, and I switched to dbi's Daves' Faves of 2001 comp. Thankfully, Dave starts his comp gently and hypnotically, and by the time I got to Track 3 with the sunny pop (with depressing lyrics) of Beulah's "Gene Autry", I was ready for it. Dave, if you're reading: the three albums that are on my short list as a result of a few listens to this comp (plus other remembered recomendations on this board) are: Circulatory System, Dismemberment Plan and Unwound. Q: If I were only to get one of those albums now and hold on the rest -- as I have a long short list and I'm trying to conserve a little since I just bought a pimped-out new laptop computer -- which one do you think I should purchase without delay?
Speaking of new laptops, if anyone's still reading: I will now finally have a home computer that I can do cd burning from, so no more dealing with that inconvenient standalone burner, and I can finally complete some of the stuff that's been languishing, and perhaps even shoot out a Faves of 2002 comp.
Happy New Year, everyone! |

| ChipB's Blues Deluxe | HYFI61 Jan 2, 2002 9:55 AM | | Can't seem to get them out of the cdp. |
| ChipB's Blues Deluxe | WStan Jan 3, 2002 7:22 PM | | Ditto for me - Chip very kindly sent me a large packet of his excellent blues comps that I received on Monday and I have been enjoying the hell out of them this week. |
