What is the deal with Simply Vinyl???Placido

I am intersted in acquiring some new vinyl, but I've heard very mixed reviews of Simpy Vinyl products.

Are any of their titles really superb? Are any absolutely to be avoided?

It seems to be a roll of the dice when it comes to quality with Simply Vinyl. At allmost 30.00 a pop it's a roll I will not take.Go over to www.audioasylum.com and use the search engine in the vinyl forum. Some people have found certain LPs that seem to have good sonics.
The last thread I read there said that the british band releases had better sound quality because Simply Vinyl is British based and had an easier time getting the original masters.YMMV.

Nick Drake - Bryter Later; sounds pretty good to my ears though I've yet to compare it to any other copies of this album.

Nirvana - In Utero; not bad, but again haven't compared it to other pressings, digital or analog.

The Band - Music from Big Pink; Atrocious sound, sounds like a transfer from a bad 3rd generation digital source. Yuck.

Apparently Simply Vinyl uses "the best source tape available" which means digital, usuallly. The rule of thumb I've heard is their releases by British artists are the best because the likelyhood of them using original (analog) tapes as the source is higher than it is for non-Brit acts. Their packaging is first rate.

Here's a link to a thread at the Vinyl Asylum in which an executive from SV explains their policy on source tapes...http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/messages/75203.html

I have four SV releases.
Eagles 'Hell Freezes Over' is just fantastic, IMO.
Dire Straits 'Making Movies' is quite decent
Elvis Presley 'Elvis Presley' and Blind Faith s/t are mediocre, but cheap.

They have a selection of LPs each month that sell well under list price. I usually take advantage of this. You can get many LPs for 9.99 pounds, sometimes even for less. At this price it's worth taking the risk.

My 2 cts.
