Excellent prog find : Pallas - The Cross and the CrucibleDave Geezer

I lucked up and found this cd at Tower Records the other day.

I had heard a few Pallas songs on a few comps, but never had one of their cd's.

This brand new cd is killer.

It reminds me of Spocks Beard - but Spocks Beard isn't as good as this band.

They have the classic "prog" sound down pat, but with a fresh and clean sound.

This cd has eight songs - six are outright rockers, two are softer prog.

If you like prog, you will like this cd. I guarantee it.

Part number IOMACD 2024 InsideOut Music America.

Dave, I'm extremely glad to hear about your satisfation with this cd. PALLAS is one of my favorite bands, and The Cross & The Crucible a wonderful recording indeed. Hope you'll want to check out the other Pallas releases in the future, all them are equally great IMO (the only exception is their first live cd, it's not that good).

Best regards.
Demetrio.

This disc intrigues me, but I got scared off it when I've heard the vocalist can be a little too intense for some ears, ala 'Fish' in Marillion, or James LaBrie from Dream theatre.
Some weird vocals at times, yes.Dave Geezer

richmon,

ya mon, there is some irie vocals going on time, but for the most part I like this music a lot.

Much better than that cat who sings for Spocks Beard.

Seems like they were playing a demographics game or something, trying to make Morse's vocal sound younger. Other SB releases his voice is more than up to the task.
But I agree that an entire album of jmaes Labrie or Fish is hard to sit through.

personally, i dig fish a lot (probably just from having been listening ot marillion for so long), but labrie really gets to me. i suspect i'd have much more dream theater in my collection if not for him...

oh, and morse is ok. there are times that i'm less than thrilled with his vocals, but usually they're fine.

haven't heard much pallas - looks like it's about time to give it a go.

I received this last week from mymusic.com, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. I'll let you know what I think of it after I hear it. But I did like their previous CD.
