"J"--- Little Sammy Davis?HYFI
Apr 17, 2002 8:58 AM
Jay, are familiar with a Little Sammy Davis? Originally from Mississippi but living somewhere in NY now. He plays harp and said he grew up playing with Jr Wells and Buddy Guy and Lonnie brooks and all the old timers. I saw him in a little bar in the poconos last summer. He played 2 sets for about 10 people. Drums acoustic guitar and harmonica. Oh yeah he sang but had no teeth and I couldn't understand anything he said even when he sat at the bar with me & Mrs Hyfi.

Thought you may have some insight on him.

I think you mentioned his name to me? Someone did recently, I think, maybe it was WStan. Despite the comps I sent ya (which I'm very pleased you're enjoying), I'm not an aficianado of contemporary blues. When it comes to the current stuff, Chip's the man, as is YECH, WStan, and maybe Tony? If I'm leaving anyone out, my apologies.

I'll keep my eyes open, though. Thanks for the tip!

We exchanged emails about the guy, but I hadn't heard of him prior to Brian's note asking me if I was familiar with him.
