| And the rumour spread that I was aging fast ... | metalguru Apr 17, 2002 1:26 PM | | Wow, what a cool album and one of the best opening songs ever in "The Width of a Circle". I've been rediscovering this one lately and it is probably my favorite Bowie listen right now. First got it on 8-track tape in the early 70s after falling in love with Ziggy Stardust. Listening right now to a CD-R from one of my Rave Recs buddies of the latest remaster from a couple years ago with bonus tracks. Still need to score one of those original UK vinyl copies with the "dress cover" one of these days ...
Just got as few "new" CDs that I've been playing with too ...
Notwist - Neon Golden (Luke Buckman 9.2 rating at Pitchfork)
Animals that Swim - Happiness from a Different Star
Van Dyke Parks - Song Cycle [Rykodisc International RCD10452 - 13 tracks]
Six By Seven - The Way I Feel Today
Well, not quite all new. The Van Dyke Parks is old but finally scored a copy of the Ryko International remaster with the extra track from a UK source after striking out on previous occasions. My only other copy is a beat up old vinyl that is too scratched up for serious listening. Sure would like to run across a cheap but mint copy one of these days :-) And the Animals That Swim is from last year I think but Notwist and Six By Seven are both fairly recent (although not released in the US).
Anyway, can't hang around now. Just wanted to let you know I'm still alive and listening to music. Johnny hit and run Paulene ;-)
See y'all later (NP: Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe Put your ray gun to my head Press your space face close to mine, love Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

What weird lyrics. It's funny that people were upset about him being androgynous (or were they? they changed that cover but I think it was a "pre-emptive" decision), but did anyone complain about the loads of Eminem-like violence in Bowie lyrics? Funny, Eminem's a little androgynous, too... but people focus on his violence.
Hey, do you know a guy named The Slider ;-).
Let me know how that Notwist is. Yes, I've seen them live. Believe it or not, they opened for Bailterspace a few years ago. I was Bspace's "guitar tech" for that show :-D. Anyway, I thought Notwist was pretty cool. Really heavy at times and even kinda proggy. A few people on this board might be interested. |
| re: Width of a circle | Mike Apr 19, 2002 12:23 AM | | What a great track, first time I heard it, it just knocked me out. I too have been recently re-discovering it with that remaster, in fact I stuck it on a recent 'Classic Remasters' comp I put together not so long ago.
I don't know why but I had all the early Bowie albums on vinyl at one time except this one, it just passed me by. Storming track though featuring some great bass and drums.
Cheers
