Hyfi's Smooth Jazz Pizazz (Vol. 2)PwrPopGuy

Not a full review but just a couple of comments, Hyfi. I had this one in my home player last night, listening to the first few cuts, then it was in my car player this morning, up to track 9 (Craig Chaquico). This comp is great, especially for cruising down the interstate and chilling out. The first four tracks are especially excellent, both musically and sonic-wise. Track 1 is a way cool modern-day version of the old "Take Five" jazz standard. By track #4, ("Baby Elephant Walk"), it was like there was a live jazz band in my car! I was very much inclined to close my eyes and totally immerse myself in the performance. Hey, what a newspaper clipping that would be: "Man loses control of vehicle - music he was listening to cited as cause of accident- CD still playing when police responded to scene!") Tracks 5-8 didn't hit me like the first four tracks, but the Craig Chaquico track picks back up the pace. That guy makes some great-sounding recordings, too.
Great job, Hyfi. When I got to work, I really hated to turn off the player and go into work! (btw, I've also heard part of Vol. 1 but I'm not rushing through this good stuff.) Thanks and I'll be working on some comps for you in the next few days..

Got mine yesterday and stuck it in the player early in the morning. Great opening track by Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour with some nice gutsy bass playing. Highlights so far are BB King, Dave Grusin, Bob James and Eric Marienthal, but the whole disc sequences well, nice job Hyfi.

Vol 2 I've not had chance to listen to much yet, by the way Mr Hyfi there are a couple of discs in the post for you, hope you like them. Thanks for the trade.

Cheers
Mike

Thanks for the kind words again. Yes I know disk 2 settles out a bit but by the end it picks up again. Yeah Chaquice is hot. I saw him 2 years ago at the Keswick. It was called 'An Evening of Guitar and Sax". Peter White, Richard Elliot, Rick Braun and Craig Chaquico. We took some older neighbors to the show that was sold out but for 2 seats right in front of us. We were in the 5th row. Chaquico (and all the others played wireless) Came out into the audience to jam and stood on the 2 open seats in front of me and played "Find Your Way Back". I could hear his Rolex ticking I was so close. His Washbourn guitar is fantastic. Next up was Rick Braun who you could hear playing but not see. He came down from the back and sat right in the open seat turned around and played a tune for Mrs. Hyfi. What a show.

Glad you like the mix. It was fun making it.

Brian
