| So I finally picked up Roger Waters "In the Flesh" DVD... | Mr MidFi Apr 18, 2002 12:00 PM | | ...so let me be the 847th to write about it.
Yep, this is one well-recorded disc. Performances are uniformly excellent. Song selection is also excellent; I found myself enjoying the Waters solo stuff more than I thought I would.
The really intriguing thing to me, though, was the yin-yang combination of Doyle Bramhall II and Snowy White on guitars. An interesting study in contrasts: lefty/right, young/older, flashy/polished, flurries/sustains, stratocaster/les paul. And man, can they play!
The 3 female singers were excellent as well, and added a passionate dimension to many of the songs.
I've only listened once, but I can definitely recommend it to anyone sitting on the fence (like I was). You'll laugh out loud when Roger & the boys whip out the folding table and play cards / drink whiskey onstage during the synth solo in "Dogs". Overall, there is a certain odd lifelessness at times, but no disc is perfect.
3-1/2 stars. |
| 3-1/2 stars? Out of how many? 4? | Dave Geezer Apr 19, 2002 6:05 AM | | Good review.
I think this is one of the best dvd's out there, period.
Especially "concert videos" category.
That Doyle Bramhill II cat is hot. Who else has he played with? The kid has confidence.

| The standard 5-star system... | Mr MidFi Apr 19, 2002 11:28 AM | | ...where only 3 or 4 discs, all time, ever get 5 stars. 3-1/2 means very good to excellent.
I looked up DBII on allmusic.com. Apparently, he was in the Arc Angels with Charlie Sexton. And his dad was a mentor to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Good pedigree. |
