Live Music Plans for the Weekend????Audio Girl
Apr 19, 2002 7:47 AM
Since I am feeling better, we are going to make two live music-oriented outings this weekend:

(1) On Saturday afternoon, my best friend's 16-year-old son has the lead in his high school's performance of "Oklahoma". We're going to fill up a couple of rows with friends and family, and cheer him on!

(2) On Sunday afternoon, we are going to see Nanci Griffith at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. I am extremely excited since its been many years since I've been to one of her concerts. The FW Arts Fest is in full swing near the concert locale, so I'll probably hear additional live music (not sure who's there this year).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to these escapes! I hope everyone has a fantastic and safe weekend!

Mary
Sounds like fun.Rae

Enjoy yourself.

I myself am going to a University (of MN) Theatre performance of "Anything Goes" tonight, then Billy Bragg & the Blokes with Black '47 on Saturday at First Avenue, and the Ladybug Transistor with the Essex Green in the Entry on Sunday. I'll let you know how the Bragg show is.

I envy you! I really enjoy his music, particularly Mermaid Avenue, Vol. I. Truly one of my favorite recordings...I'll look forward to your review.

Have a great time,

How were they? Swish informed me that they will be in Dallas on 4/24, and I might check 'em out. Let me know your thoughts...

Have fun,

Quite enjoyed them first time around. This is intelligent, energetic, sunny, power pop which is quite modern, but with Beach Boys and Byrds influence and horn accents. The lyrics are sometimes depressing but the music is not. They gave a very good performance and they seem like nice guys. So, if you like their music, I can recommend seeing them. The only thing I would mention is that they've generally been playing in standing-only, general-admission, smaller bar/hall type venues, where they don't come on until late, etc. I don't know about the Dallas venue, but if this isn't your type of thing, you might check beforehand.
Thanks for the Warning...Audio Girl

They are playing at "Trees" in Dallas which I have never been to for a concert. I'll have to followup with the club and see about the standing thing. Right now, I can't stand for long periods and probably won't be able to do so for another 4 weeks.

I appreciate your followup, Darius!

The Arrivals are way excellent. I saw them at Michigan Fest and have their record Goodbye New World. They're on Thick Records-- Thick Records F-ing Rocks. You'll like them if you have a brain or a soul. They're kind of drunk-on-the-verge-of-tears punk. Like the Murder City Devils without the organ or the death fixation. Isaac is a really nice guy.

Are you going to be up here for the D4 record release show? June 2nd.

I accepted an invite to go see Lemmy & crew with 2 older rocker classmates, one of them English. At a small metal club (well, hard rock - apparently the White Stripes played there a few weeks ago) in the thick of Central NJ tomorrow night. Never seen them before and can't wait. I hope I return with all my limbs intact.
ooo, I'm seeing that in a few weeks.Rae

Are they with Morbid Angel there too? Should be a ripping good time.
I think you'll be seeing Today Is the Day too...Masonjar

Let me know what you think.. they're one of the old school Am Rep noise units, but they jumped over to Relapse a few years ago.. Steve Austin usually puts on quite a spectacle.
I'm considering also attending when this tour when it hits Cleveland..

It's been years since I've seen 'em.. not since Dopes to Infinity came out.. they used to rock pretty good back then.. one of their best shows was opening (more like co-headlining) with C.O.C. That reminds me.. Down is coming up too..

Man, Magnet and COC, what a show!!! I think Superjudge is their best album. I'm seeing Down the night before the Magnet show!!!!
yeah, but I won't be seeing themcc

My ride thinks they suck so we're going later. It's funny - where we recorded our 2nd album, Morbid Angel's practice room was in the adjoining warehouse. For a break we'd go to the back of the room and listen to them through the rafters. We thought they were pretty awesome... I guess a sillier than Motorhead as far as pretense goes. Oh well, this guy's a bit of a purist, I guess. Also likes Social Distortion, Dinosaur, Butthole Surfers, and maybe Melvins.
