| Quick! What are you listening to right now? | PwrPopGuy Apr 19, 2002 10:27 AM | | Or, what's the last CD or song you heard if you're not listening at the moment? For me, it was Yes "I've Seen All Good People" from The Very Best of Yes in the car player at lunch. Berore that, "Starship Trooper". That guitar riff in S.T. that starts after the vocals end is one of my all-time fave rock riffs. It's that part where the guitar has a Chorus or Leslie speaker effect on it, then the rest of the band eventually kicks in and Chris Squire gets down real low on the bass notes. Cool stuff. |

| Glad you asked-I need a break | Jim Clark Apr 19, 2002 10:41 AM | | I'm listening to a bootleg Wall Of Voodoo tape recorded at the Civic Center in Santa Monica on 9-21-80. I've been hunkered down the past two weeks transferring about 30 shows to CDR. Recording isn't the problem, it's busting it up into individual tracks. It takes forever. If the show didn't fit onto one side of the tape it's a real pain to try to maintain the flow.
The reason I'm doing this is long and sordid. I kind of wish I wasn't the middle man on this. So far there have only been three that were worth it. At any rate, a couple of RR Voodoo fans, and probably Troy's buddy Gomez are going to benefit from this so I don't mind too much.
I know that ain't what you were shooting for but I REALLY needed a break. Thanks.

I feel like that out of towner on the Bud commercial. "Why I'm fine, thanks for asking. Just got in town today...." |

| Are You Passionate? I am for this recording... | Audio Girl Apr 19, 2002 11:56 AM | | Brad, I like it a lot. My perspective of Neil's latest closely parallels the Pitchfork review (which I hadn't even seen until today). Like you, I had read varying opinions...particularly on music Message Boards. I took the plunge and am glad I did.
See my thread above regarding a new comp I've put together. It includes 3 tracks from Are You Passionate. I'd be happy to send you a copy...

| Are You Passionate? I am for this recording...me too | tony w Apr 19, 2002 12:32 PM | | Hi Mary
I bought this in Ann Arbor MI for $5 on sat. The copy I got is an un-mastered disc version #3.
It lasts 66mins and it is wonderful, the sound has a raw live feel to it, and I'm wondering how the official release sounds.
This is an excellent Neil Young/Booker T album
Buy it

| You Have Good Taste :-) | Audio Girl Apr 19, 2002 12:37 PM | | You lucky dog! That sounds like quite a find. The sonics on the official release are excellent. I just love the Neil Young/Booker T songs but also the rockin' "Goin' Home," the lone recording on the disc with Crazy Horse. Neil's playing is in fine form :-)
Cheers!

I'm only up to track 5, but so far it's typically good Yechy type material: funk drenched blusey head boppin' fun stuff that I personally would never, ever get to hear if not for comp trading. Rick |

| re: Quick! What are you listening to right now? | DustyChalk Apr 20, 2002 9:26 PM | | ^%$#@! I missed this thread. I was listening to something really interesting at the time, too, like Apex Theory's _Topsy Turvy_ or something, but now I don't remember. Oh, well, now I'm only listening to the soundtrack from _The Mothman Prophecies_ -- quite good! Recommended if you like Air, Zero 7, and the recent bout of organic space-rock. |
