| Guess I'll be listening to Alice In Chains and Mad Season today :-( | Slosh Apr 20, 2002 7:57 AM | | It's too bad, and AIC still is one of my faves, but life goes on. Why do so many talented song writers become junkies? |

Unlike probably 80-90% (maybe 95%) of the population, their hobby/passion is their career and they are making a living doing what they love. It seems like most of the high profile O/D's occur while the musician is still in his/her prime and is doing well financially (assuming they didn't piss it all away or have a manager who stole everything). I guess Cobain had the mysterious stomach ailment whose pain couldn't be regulated with traditional pain management medications and therapy (how much effort he put into physician-regulated methods before turning to heroin isn't clear to me, though), but most of the others don't seem to have had excuses that significant, except maybe demons from their childhood or something like that. The least attractive rock star still doesn't hurt for romantic companionship (at least of a temporary nature), something that plagues many people.
Although many people would probably rather shoot him with some of his own archery supplies, you kind of have to admire Ted Nugent's refusal to take drugs and anti-drug stance; even though in the span of five years he went from top drawing rock act in the country to bankrupt, he still stayed clear of the evil stuff. Of course, I imagine there are more than a few psychologists out there who would opine that the Nuge's womanizing was roughly the equivalent of other rock stars' drug addictions. |
