| Does Roxio CD Creator Platinum have record level control or | Darius Aug 11, 2002 8:19 AM | | any compression features? I am speaking of record level control from digital sources, so if I was recording a comp and I wanted to use a track from an especially loud and/or compressed cd, for example, I could turn down the volume of that track so it doesn't stick out from the rest. Or vice versa with an early, low-output-level cd. Compression I would use more sparingly but it would be nice to have the option. I ask this about Roxio because I just ordered it (the latest version for XP), but I probably should have found out the answer to this question first. |
| It should | PwrPopGuy Aug 11, 2002 8:48 AM | | I have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.2 which I think was before they changed the name to Roxio but what I use has a feature called Spin Doctor where it allows you to equalize volume levels. I never use it, however, because I haven't been able to figure out how to both equalize the tracks and be able to cross fade them, too. And if you do use the feature, it takes a long time- at least on my version- to go through each of the tracks and balance them because it goes through a couple of different levels of processing one track at a time, so that's another reason I don't use it. Hopefully, your version will be more user-friendly.

| It does | Troy Aug 11, 2002 3:13 PM | | I use Toast Platinum which is the Mac version of this slothware. It's pretty much identical. Yeah, use SpinDr. to adjust the levels of the particular track. Don't use the anti-click thing though, it takes too much of the high end. Not sure why it takes long for you to do this, Pwrpopguy, maybe it's a memory allocation thing. How much ram does your computer have? |
| Just so you know... | BradH Aug 11, 2002 6:56 PM | | If you turn the level down on a compressed track it will still be compressed, only quieter. |
| Just so you know... | Troy Aug 11, 2002 9:25 PM | | If you fart in the bathtub, it will also be compressed, only quieter. Luckily, the smell remains unchanged.
I think Darius is only interested in making the sound levels match more closely. I ran into this on my 70s comps too. Only I didn't really care and left them as they were. |
| The Smell Remains Unchanged. | BradH Aug 12, 2002 6:42 PM | | Wasn't that a movie or something in the 70's? |
| I understand | Darius Aug 12, 2002 7:59 AM | | As Troy said; I'm only interested in making the sound level differences a little less extreme, as for my 1987 comp I'm dealing with everything from early CDs actually manufactured on 1987 to a remaster (of Michael Jackson's Bad - oh yeah!) released this year. It's a symptom of the year I chose. Compressed is compressed; not ideal but it's better to have more matching compressed than compressed that sticks out like a sore thumb. |
