paging Bryan and Peter....RPM
Aug 12, 2002 12:23 PM
Will you guys be willing to sign a peace agreement of sorts? I'm not taking sides here, just sticking my nose where it doesn't belong to ask you 2 to "bury the hatchet". Would you both simply post a reply to this message stating that you're willing to agree to either of the following suggestions:

1) agree to quit going after each other on the board. No one says you have to be best pals and agree on everything, but just quit pushing each others buttons once and for all.

2) If you can't coexist without confrontation, then will you simply agree to ignore the other person, even if provoked?

Maybe you guys secretly enjoy these confrontations, but just in case you don't, and want a way out, here's your chance. No need for an elaborate explanation, simply add your name, or state "OK", or somehow acknowledge agreement. Even if only one of you signs up, it will free you as an adversary and you can point to this post during any future shenanigans (did I spell that right?).
Hey! How 'bout those COWBOYS??????Audio Girl

America's team, ya know...

Sorry, I know this is serious :-(
AG
Do they still suck?RPM
Aug 12, 2002 3:27 PM
The Cowboys that is. Sorry AG, I'm not a big f-ball fan, but I do know the Boys are not the dynasty team of the past. Besides I live in Eagle country now. :-)

I'll bet you two pristine LPs:

1. Sparklehorse -- "it's a wonderful life"
2. The Convocation Of...Pyramid Technology

Both purchased brand new and have seen limited play. How 'bout you, big boy? I want something of equal value! :-)

Too bad we're gonna kick Philly's butt,
MH
Cowboys over the Eagles? What fantasy world are you living in?Swish
Aug 12, 2002 4:47 PM
Sorry AG, but you'd better stick to music, 'cause you won't have much to watch this fall! I won't make a wager, unless you want to bet CDs, because I don't want no stinkin' vinyl.

I really don't Mary...
Hmmm, I know "The Convocation of..."RPM
Aug 12, 2002 4:48 PM
rooolz (since I already own it on Cd), but this might be a golden opportunity for a vinyl vs. cd A/B test.

Let me check thru my collection and get back atcha. You want vinyl only, I assume?
Hey, I'll buy 'em both...Slosh
Aug 12, 2002 5:20 PM
...or at least the Sparklehorse LP since Rick is going to win The Convocation Of...

BTW, I've disliked the Eagles ever since the Buddy Ryan days so I'd like to see Dallas win. Don't much like the Cowboys either but at least I don't live near Dallas and don't have to listen to their whining fans at work.

No, not the musical group, although Heterosexual Man is a killer song. But Mary, we need some odds. I think you need 4 lp to 2 lp odds. Right RPM? Sure we're gonna open up a can of whupass on em once this year (Twice? Negative function) but the oddsmakers are going to be giving us mucho points, both games. One the other hand, I predict one upset win because of the Hate Philly factor, the Hunger factor, and the Emmit factor. Definitely NOT the Quincy Carter factor. NP - David Bowie on Leno - Not bad, Mrs. N would be drooling right about now
Hey "Davey the Greek" who asked you? ;-)RPM

My bet is straight up, one LP for one LP, (on the first meeting between the two teams). Besides, I doubt I have 4 LP's in my collection that Mary would be interested in, I'm still looking for one. :-)

You've been watching the 'get Yech' show, a long time fixture on Rave Recs. I myself play a part from time to time. Since yech loves to give people sh!t from time to time, a few others have developed a knack for giving it back. Don't take it too seriously.
I'll think about itDustyChalk

(We're probably both waiting for the other to post first. I'll start.)

The problem I have is with #2. You're basically asking me not to defend myself, and that's just against my very nature. It's survival instinct. It's like writing a blank check and saying that he can say anything he wants to, and I signed up to saying nothing. I'm sure that when I phrase it that way, you can see why I would hesitate in rushing forward to sign up.

And I've already signed up to #1. Except for falling off the wagon once (the "trite" post), I haven't posted anything other than in response in many months.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. All it takes for this to stop is for him to stop.

Besides, "pushing his buttons" consists of, in my case, posting, or in anyone's case, talking about Porcupine Tree or prog music a lot. I mean, what, you want us to just quit posting? Forget that! I'm going to post, and I'm going to post about prog, and Porcupine Tree, and synth-pop, and if you don't like it, don't read my posts. That's not a message to YECH, that's not a message to you, Rick, it's a message to everyone. I think it should go without saying, but here I am, saying it.

Besides, under penalty of what? What are you guys going to do to me, treat me like Finch Platte? (Sorry, guy, just going with the running joke, let me know if it gets old, I'll stop...) In order to have law and order, you need to have actual repercussions when someone fails to uphold one side of the bargain. The alternative is trust, and I hope you don't find me too cynical in saying that I don't trust someone who thrives on confrontation.

I like WhineyStan's suggestion better. I have no problem "pretending" that posts against proggers aren't directed at me personally. It's not even pretending -- I know they're not.

It strikes me that even though you're trying to be symmetrical about this, you're doomed to failure from the start. There's nothing symmetrical about this. Just for example, #2 was obviously directed at me, I don't see how it applies to YECH at all. (Don't worry, I didn't take it personally.)

Ironically, I almost didn't post my response. I did find his Scats'R'Us joke funny. I wanted to let him know that I found it funny without being a total kiss-ass. You know, "LOL! Hey, that was really funny, YECH." He (and Whiney Stan and pretty much everyone else) probably would've even taken that wrong, waiting for the other shoe to drop. So I chose to respond, in a "male bonding" sort of flavour that I thought was "lite" enough to show my intentions, yet in a manner (I would have hoped) that he would have recognized. I was just trying to get things back to "normal" (whatever that is), inasmuch as that is possible. Oh, well, the road to hell and all that...

Hey, I have a better idea -- let's talk about music! No, I'm serious. The best thing all of you guys can do when stuff like this happens is to post. Just bury the thread. I think both of us would hesitate to respond if the thread was buried on page 2. (And I can see that several of you are already doing that -- bravo!)
I guess it all boils down to personality typesRPM

To me, eventually walking away seems a better option than constantly being on guard and ready for battle. You're right, the other person could continue to taunt and jab, but you've got no control over that, you've only got control your own reaction (or lack there-of).

I'm gonna back out of this now that I started it, I don't mean (nor want) to act as a moderator, I just thought I'd create an opportunity for a settlement in case both of you were interested in that option but neither wanted to stick their hand out first. :-)

Like you said, we're all (allegedly) here to talk music anyway.

peace,
Rick

Hey Dusty, here's a little un solicited for FWIWDLD

I've got this ignorant brother In Law. Lives in a trailer by the lake (perilously close to living in a "van down by the river". Thank you Crhis Farley, and may you R.I.P..) Anyway, G has known what buttons to push on me since he met me 29 years ago. There aren't many things that'll set me off but dammit, he knows exactly what they are with me. pardon me if I don't share them here in public.

My arguments with him were all WINNERS. I could pick apart all his crap, But Hell, he would never recognize it or admit it. For years he'd continue with his bullsh!t. My wife told me over and over again, "Ignore that crap, thats just G being G". Finally, after 27 years I decided to ignore it. Perhaps it was me growing up and realizing that I didn't have to win an argument to get satisfaction. Perhaps it was fear of Mrs. Nasty getting on my case after G and I had a free for all cuss a thon. (of course, unlike you and Br, we always made up til the next imbroglio, Hell, it was family). Whatever, the last few times we've gotten together, everthings been cool. We're even going fishing together again a few times a month. I think he's learned that pushing my hot button doesn't work anymore. I KNOW its NOT because I won the last argument and he's surrendered.

Dusty, my situation of course wasn't exactly like yours. And I don't want you thinking that I think Bryan is all full of crap and that he's an ignorant redneck nor do I want you thinking that I think you're not grown up for debating him, point by point and taking personal offense at some of his comments. Are there parallels here? Who-TF knows. Just take this little analogy for what its worth. Maybe nothing, maybe something. DD
You're right, they secretly enjoy the confrontations3-LockBox

Yech welcomes and seeks them. A couple of years ago I got caught-up in the 'get Yech' game. No one need take anything Yech says to heart, nor does Yech need defending. Every message board has one. I myself delve into the 'get Yech' game from time to time.
