| I've got 2 discs to give away (pop category). | Finch Platte Aug 12, 2002 3:00 PM | | Here's the deal- I lost my wallet a few weeks ago. In it was a credit coupon at the local used CD store. I talked with the owner, told him my sad story, and he told me he'd give me the credit, without needing the slip.
I looked around, and didn't see anything I wanted. I went to the area where they have the new arrivals, and spotted a disc by a local guy, Willie Hines, called "Yeahright". I have the disc- it's a bright pop disc with nice vocals and harmonies, good guitar playing and solid musicianship. The sound is a little thin, but, oh well. And it hit me- hey- how 'bout you give me 2 of these discs, I'll put 'em up for grabs on my favorite audio board, ask for reviews, and see what happens?
"Sure!" said Willie, all smiles. He grabs 2 of his discs and says "Here ya go, Gare!"
So. To the first 2 people who think they want a copy, post here. The only thing is, you gotta write a review here after I send it to ya. It doesn't have to be positive- be honest. I'm sure Willie's heard it all. Just want to hear what you think, that's all.
May the posting begin!

Bonus- I saw these guys play at the local Earth Day fair- one of the last songs was a favorite of mine- 'Dim' by dada. Yeah! |

Ever hear 'Rise'? It's off El Subliminoso and has a sort of anthemic quality...meaning "it really rox!" [:o)

| Rise | Finch Platte Aug 13, 2002 6:34 PM | | Ya- that's a good one, too. Playing it right now, aamof.
When I was in the last band I was in, we would play 'Dim' several times a night, just to make sure we got it right ;0)
I got chills playing it, sometimes- or was that the Keystone Ice?
Wish they would come out with something new...

| Dada | Chip_B Aug 14, 2002 4:58 AM | | My wife has an email subscription to a site called 'Dadaphiles' or something like that. If I remember correctly, the last newsletter indicated that Dada was going to get back together for a tour. Dunno if this will translate into a new record; as far as I know Butterfly Jones (the Dada follow-on band) is still together.

| Dada | WStan Aug 14, 2002 7:12 AM | | I've said this before, but assuming that the guys can rekindle the spark they had eight years ago, don't miss Dada if they do tour near you. I was luck enough to catch them after they released their second CD, which was only half the album that their first was, but unlike their third and fourth albums, American Highway Flower still contained more good songs than mediocre or lousy ones and they all sounded awesome live. I'll have to see if I can find any further information on a reunion tour. |
| Yes, please do... | Finch Platte Aug 14, 2002 6:34 PM | | Or is that doodoo? I would appreciate any info on a tour. You're right, they are very good live. I get chills watching them.
I can't understand why they have so many clunkers on their later discs... and Butterfly Jones is
i not
a step in the right direction, imho.

| Dada tour info: none | WStan Aug 15, 2002 7:18 AM | | Well, I checked the official Dada website, <www.dadaland.com> and there were no tour dates posted since 2000. No mention on their message board of a tour either over the past month, except one person asked if anyone had heard the band was getting back together and starting a new tour, to which there were no responses.
That is truly the saddest message board in the music industry. There are a handful of diehard Dada fans who make up the regulars who discuss the same four albums (the latter two of which, as FP states, are full of duds) week after week. There is a troll who goes by the monicker The Terminator who has been visiting there as a regular for at least a year and a half, who slams the group as being a bunch of no-talent losers day after day in hundreds of posts. I'm not sure who owns or administers the message board, but they permit the guy to just foul up the board and the other regulars continue to rise to his bait month after month (heck, maybe the guy is the only reason the board is still active). The really sad thing is that Dada's bass player, Joie Calio, used to visit the board regularly (maybe he was the administrator, didn't seem as if he had posted anything in the past month) and very pathetically allowed the troll to insult the crap out of him, giving some credence to his insults.
I also found out that Calio has his own website where he maintains an online journal and his entries for the last month or two contain no mention of a reunion, but instead mention that he is in the studio recording some new tracks and is debating whether his next CD will go out under his name or that of his band, Candy Apple Black. Anyone hear any of CAB's music?
I haven't heard Butterfly Jones, but I'm not surprised to hear that they are not impressive. I think the band members ran out of creative steam about two thirds of the way through recording their second album, American Highway Flower. I've got the third and fourth albums, have listened to them sufficiently to give them a real fair shake (I wanted to like them) but they are really short on songs that are above a 5 on a 10 scale (maybe one or two on each and probably none better than a 6, maybe a 7). It's a real shame, as they are/were an exceptionally talented group of musicians. |
