Great Find of a Prog Classic: CasinoBarryL

I know Demetrio has this one, but the band is Casino. It was originally released in 1992, but re-issued in 1997 on Verglas. It features Clive Nolan of Pendragon, Karl Groom and Jon Jeary of Threshold, a couple of guys from 12th Night, one from Pallas, and one from Iris.

I was just walking through the CD store, and there it was at the front of the rack. I wasn't even looking for it. A bit expensive as a British import, but I couldn't let it go.

The music is neo-prog, similar in many respects to a toned-down Pendragon. Very nicely textured with great combination of accustic and electric instruments. Four songs are over the ten minute mark, for those who like some expansion and compression in their music. This is highly recommended to fans of Pendragon, IQ, and possibley post-Fish Marillion.

Yeah, that Casino stuff is excellent indeed (there was a track from this album on the first sampler I sent you all long time ago - Prog Gems 1). The vocalist, Geoff Mann, was also the frontman of the 80's British Neo-Prog group TWELFTH NIGHT, whose music Casino reminds me a lot, so you'll surely love this stuff too. "Fact and Fiction" is the only album I have, so this is the one I can recommend you now.

Happy listening.
Demetrio.

Thanks D. Its from your comps that I find out about these great bands. I saw the disk, knew the name, and it cost me $30 bucks (it's expensive when they mark up those imports, but that's about what it costs if I mail order them). I'll keep my eyes open for Twelfth Night. Clearly they have a Verglas supplier.

I've been enjoying that and Jadis Medium Rare over the past few days, along with the 1971 and 1972 comps.
