Looking Back at 1997Mike
Aug 16, 2002 7:07 AM
That's the title of my retro comp, hope no-one has picked this year cos' this is the one I'm working on.

I've got a short(long)list of artists to look at this weekend including The Verve, Foofighters, Reef, Taj Mahal, Oasis, Blur, Whiskeytown, Transister, 3 Colours Red, Charlatans, Prefab Sprout, Faith No More, Van Morrison, Capercaille, The Sundays, Radiohead and Son Volt etc

Somehow it all needs to hang together so it should make an interesting comp, I'll keep you posted,

Cheers
Mike
dbi and Snowflake are doin' '97 but...Slosh

..the only crossover I see is Radiohead so it should make for a nice contrast to their (mostly) indie selections.
Yer right...Mike

I think I'll just go ahead anyway, I'm sure dbi and Snowbunny won't mind,

Cheers
Mike
Your such an arse, Mike, I can't believe you'd just go ahead! ;-Snowbunny

I've just realised looking back over previous posts dbi and snowbunny are doing a joint venture on 1997 - is this right Dave?

If so I might pick another year or better still does anybody have a definitive list of who is doing what. I checked an earlier post by PwrPopGuy which I thought listed who was doing which year but there must have been a few changes since then. I've had a quick look at JC's website but it lists finished products only.

Cheers

Dave's still in bedSnowbunny
Aug 16, 2002 7:31 AM
but I'll speak for him. :-)

Please go ahead with your '97 comp, Mike, if its already been compiled. Or even if it hasn't. I sounds great, and Sloshbucket's right. There's very little crossover.

Snowflake

Besides, I think dbi was whining about how commercial Radiohead was, anyway. ;-)
Thanks SnowbunnyMike

What Dave whining surely not, you must be treating him too roughly. I'll try not to pick the same track as you two and send you a copy when it's ready.

Incidentally I've got a couple of comps for you that I never got around to sending before you went on your little break, so I might as well send it altogether.

Cheers
Mike
Thank you, MikeSnowbunny

I'll e-mail you the tracklist this weekend Mike so that we don't use any of the same songs (although there really wouldn't be any crime in that, either).

Mike, I'd like to see such a list as well. If I get some free time this morning, maybe I'll try to compile one.

A couple of years have opened up since the initial list - Slosh vacated 1990 and '99, Darius vacated 1986, and I vacated 2001. Looks like there's some prime real estate still available. Do 1996 and use Pulp's "Common People"!! <img src="http://www.cmj.com/ubb/wink.gif">

"I know him, and he does."
nice job!dbi
Aug 16, 2002 8:35 AM
But if Mike uses Common People it will fall back to 1995 since that's when it was released in his country :-)
Rae, why don't you offer your (most excellent) existing 2001 comp?Slosh
Aug 17, 2002 7:09 AM
I've been meaning to do a 2001 myself (for myself) but if you don't want yours to be a part of the retro series I could offer mine (though, many of the songs have already been used on other comps).

After listing the potential selections, I see that only five or six haven't appeared on other 2001 year end comps so what's the point? In fact, I'm not even going to make this comp for myself now. Guess I'll just wait 'til December and do a 2002 year end comp.
