| Here's a review of DLD's "Odd Rock and Powerful Pop" from May 2001... | RPM Aug 17, 2002 6:46 AM | | Thanks to Hifys post, I checked my PC for "in work" reviews and found this one which was last modified in May of 2001! Well, better late than never. it's only a few sentences, but I figured I'd just post it "as is": --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- comments on dld's "Odd Rock and Powerful Pop" comp I'm not sure where the "Odd Rock" comes from in the title as there's really nothing odd about this collection of songs or artists. This is a very accessible and listenable collection of tunes. The first group (tracks 1-8) are basically low key (that's not bad BTW, it just means no screaming guitar or vocals) group of groovy, foot tappin', rootsy, blues influenced rock tracks. This section of the comp is by far my favorite. The kind of music you would put on at a party where the people know music. It's not everyday radio friendly stuff, but should appeal to most anyone who likes music. The next section I assume is the "Powerful Pop" section (tracks 10-21) and it was sort oh hit or miss with this section. Some classic material here by The Hollies, George Harrison, Pablo Cruise, etc. but IMO they sound a bit dated. Not that the age of these songs should dilute their greatness, the fact that they are still heard today is testimony to their stature. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I little late, but thanks Dave! | had forgotten about that comp, thnx for the review! | DLD Aug 17, 2002 11:50 AM | | I also favor the first half. I can't even remember the tracklist but seem to recall a couple of oddball tunes on there, Tyler Famularo, Frank White doing Not Fade Away, BoDeans and a goofy song at the end by Greg Alexander . I still like it but would probably do it a little differently today. |
| I'll have to pull it out for another listen | RPM Aug 17, 2002 5:06 PM | | Those comments were made so long ago, I don't recall the songs much either.
Hope you're having a good weekend!
