Happy Thanksgiving!allears
Nov 28, 2002 7:06 AM
and it's my birthday to boot!

Just gave The Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi' a spin in my car and I like about 50% of it, which is pretty good for any disc I think. There were two tracks I didn't care for at all, the last was one. I ended up skipping to the next disc, I guess I was just tired of the 'Lips.' Yet I liked it while it was playing, wierd, huh? It does remind me of Mercury Rev a bit though.

What I forwarded to in the changer was 'Harmony' by Clinic. The song must have been on a comp because it sounds familiar, but not on CRSV5. It must have been on someone else's comp I don't recall right now. I do like the song, especially the lonesome-sounding harmonica. Makes me wonder if this song was on a comp because it was the first, and usually more popular sounding track on the disc. Should I expect some disappointment for the rest of the disc? Is it a bad sign when the first song on a disc is the one used for a comp? I did buy this disc because of the CRSV5 song 'For the Wars' which is the very last song. Guess I'll find out later if my initial assumption is correct.

Stay tuned for more insightful commentary.

Clinc or VD Clinic??
Flaming Lips??Uhhh Ok.

Turn that crap up loud enough and I'm sure you'll rid yerself of the dreaded in-laws.

Nice quiet Thanksgiving in the northern hinterlands.15 degrees and a light dusting of snow.No phucking in-laws to put up with so I'm a happy drunken camper. The only negative for today is I have to watch the Lions.I bought an extra pack of depends to handle the explosive diarhea they give me.

Time to go finish watching Hellhounds On My Trail:The Afterlife Of Robert Johnson. So far I am in total awe of Rory Blocks command of the acoustic guitar.Phenomenal performance.

I wonder what proggers eat for Thanksgiving??Baked synthesizer??

Thank You Lord for giving me something to do other than watch the Lions today.
Thank You Lord for allowing me the sense to live in the South where we don't have snow on Thanksgiving, but rather, a tee-time at 11AM -- 60 degrees and sunny.
And most of all, Thank You Lord for giving me the ability to maintain a positive attitude and not exhibit a loser mentality like Bryan -- GOD bless him -- incontinent and not yet 50.
At least the music he likes is all from the South.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you -- now get off this stupid board and go get with your family.

Happy T-day to all. It's cold here in suburban wasteland north of Chicago...a good excuse to stay in and enjoy the bounty of the season. That means eating like a pig, drinking like a Viking, and watching NFL football.

The 5-disc changer is currently spiral-playing:
Elvis Costello - King of America
Sting - Fields of Gold (best of)
Tasty Acoustic Visions (comp)
Wallflowers - Breach
Peter Gabriel - Us

The meal at the MidFi household:
13-lb. turkey, rubbed w/ olive oil, toasted fennel, cumin, chili powder and sea salt.

Bread/apple/onion/mushroom dressing

Cranberry sauce

Garlic mashed potatoes

Baked acorn squash

Asparagus served with lemon butter

Chilled Mosel valley reisling (Piesporter Kabinett)

Warm pumpkin pie served w/ homemade ice cream

I put "Harmony" and "For The Wars" on my 2002 comp. I don't remember sending it to you but it looks like I did. I like every song on Walking With Thee but I hardly ever listen to the whole album at once because many of the songs sound so much alike. If you have a CD changer it's a great disc to load up with others and play back in shuffle/random mode.

50% on the first spin ain't bad at all! A lot of the album needs to grow on you. I have a CD-R copy of Yoshimi (thanks Snowie) but it is supposed to be released on DVD-A soon and I'll pick up a legit copy then.

You folks are making me hungry for both food and music AND a day off work.

Alas we've already had our Thanksgiving Turkey and it's a regular kind of work-Thursday for us here in the Great White North.

Have fun and enjoy your day of thanks.

Cheers,

Now that the kids have spread to the four winds, I'm sitting listening to, oddly enough, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots also. Side one is damn good. Played it twice in a row. Haven't spun side two yet. LP from Insound arrived this week. What a cool cover. Watched Spider Man earlier. Two thumbs in the way upward direction. Very surprised

Mrs. Nasty outdid her ownself today, to wit,

Stuffed Pork Roast
Cornbread Dressing
Seasoned Rice
Green Bean Casserole
Home made yeast rolls
Yams
Creamy Corn and Red Pepper Soup with Cilantro Creme Fraiche
Speckled Butter Beans (fresh , not frozen)
Pecan Pie
Fudge
Pralines
Fat Tire Ale for old fart, tea for the weaklings

Before we put Yoshimi on, we synched up Wizard of Oz (on TBS) with DSOTM. Whatta bunch of Urban Myth crapola. Yea, there were some coincidences with some of the lyrics, but as far as pacing and timing, hah! Reading Buffet's A Pirate Looks At Fifty as Yoshimi plays. Highly recommended. Damn near a perfect day, only wish the Mavericks had won # 15 in a row this evening.

60 here today, 65 tomorrow and vinyl scrounging with a visit to the lake later. Stripers are feeding like crazy
