Why do imports sound better?HYFI

Why does it seem that imports from EC or Holland generaly sond better than american releases? The other night I bought an imported Best Of Jefferson Airplane. It was labeled "Originals" and the versions were original recordings and not the later more screaming versions put out on Worst Of. I needed to spend $8 left over from a gift card. The disk was $9 and I thought for sure it would suck. It didn't! For tunes recorded in the '60s, it sounded real good. Nothing like a GRP disk but alot better than other old rock disks.

Not too long ago I grabbed a Best Of Donavan out of the $5 rack thinking again it would suck bad. Again, it sounded great and is the most real sounding live disk I own. I know it's not hard when it is only 1 man and 1 instrument, but still for the age of the recordings it is surprising.

another import I got a few years ago was In The Court Of The Crimson King from Holland. Another great sounding remaster from long ago.

Anyone else have any comments about imports?
