Dec 2, 2002 6:24 PM
It's that time of year again Rave Wreckers!!

Can we agree to disagree with some of our picks for our year-end lists?? BUT.....

can we agree on a due date (NEXZZZT THURZZZZday, DEC. 11th,
as THE date for posting our best of/ fun lists??

Lmk, if this works for you.

I'm still refining my list and its categories for 2002.

Can't wait.

I was kind of hoping for some December releasesJim Clark

to get something worthwhile on my list. As it is, my list is very small and it's doubtful I could come up with 10 as it is right now. Hopefully a few I've been counting on will soon see the light of day.

...you guys go ahead and do your lists, but I still haven't done my list from 2000, much less 2001. And I'm still modifying my lists from the 80's.

L, I don't even have all the albums I want from 2002, yet.

Maybe some time in April.

Yeah, I may not discover my favorite album of 2002 until 2022. Best of the year should be stuff you listened to in that year, IMO. Here's my quicky top ten:

10. Oxes - Oxxxes
9. Trail Of The Dead - Source Tags & Codes
8. Clinic - Walking With Thee
7. Sixteen Horsepower - Folklore
6. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
5. Girls Against Boys - You Can't Fight What You Can't See
4. Enon - High Society
3. Ugly Casanova - Sharpen Your Teeth
2. The Black Heart Procession - Amore Del Tropico
1. Mastodon - Remission

ps - sorry about my subject line ;-)
You're done buying already?Jim Clark

What kind of RR'r are you anyway? Guess what, there are more release dates after the 11'th and there's plenty of time to listen before the year is out. What is the rush? I know, you peeked at presents before Christmas didn't you? You know you did! Patience my friend.

in no particular order:
Spoon - Kill The Moonlight
Beck - Sea Change
Signal To Trust - Folklore
Song Of Zarathusta - A View From High Tides
Cave In - Tides Of Tomorrow (OK, so it's an EP)
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Jucifer - I Name You Destroyer
Audioslave - s/t
Echobrain - s/t
Doug Martsch - Now You Know (oh wait, this needs to be in my top ten. Goodbye 16 HP)

Now, let's see how many of you steal from my lists :-)
I'll give 'em one ball & you can give'em another.....audiobill

Agreed?? Just kidding.

Hey, Sloshster..... what can you tell us about that Song Of Zarathusta - A View From High Tides?? You've probably already talked about it on some other post, but I'd like to know a little more about it.

BTW, I'm off to the store this week to pick up Mastodon. I must listen to it before I post my list. It sounds too good to pass up.

Oh, and Doug Martsch.....what can you tell us about him, since he's usurped 16 Horsepower from its spot.

Let 'em hang & dangle, baby....

hmm...Song Of Zarathustra is heavy hardcore, but I wouldn't go as far to call it metal. Screamed vocals, fast and raunchy guitar. I really liked what I heard in the store but I haven't got into it as much as I expected at home. I still like it more than a bunch of other albums I got this year but it's a little too punk for me to listen on a regular basis.

Mastodon is fvcking brilliant but keep in mind Sepultura is my favorite metal band. In fact, it sounds very much like Sepultura (including vocals) except slowed down a bit, which also makes them sound kinda like Melvins.

You know Doug Martsch is the main guy from Built To Spill, right? His solo sounds like a Built To Spill album but with slide guitar (both acoustic and electric). It's also bluesier than Built To Spill, but not overly so.

BTW, I really am enjoying Sixteen Horsepower but I'm not certain if it's because it is really that good or if it's just because I really don't have any other music in my collection quite like it (sounds sorta like J. Cash to me).

And JC, I never am done buying music (just like everyone else here).

I'd call 'em "noise rock." Yeah, I know genre-labeling is silly. Bite me.

Hey, I don't remember how long ago it was that we were talking about them initially but I meant to tell you that I ran into Travis (the singer) at a show the very same night. Weird, huh?

Did he have anything interesting to say?

I imagine they're pretty decent live, um, judging from the album.

How 'bout hardcore-noise-rock?

With balls strapped on...

most listened to album (also favorite live band of the year):
Gomez - In Our Gun

most over-hyped (although I sorta like the album)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

album that spent the most time on my 2002 wishlist without being purchased:
Beth Orton - Daybreaker

next 2002 release I intend to purchase:
Girls Against Boys - You Can't Fight...

album I expected too much from:
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights

boring album of the year:
Dave Matthews - Busted Stuff

coolest discovery of an existing band that for some reason I never checked out before (OK, maybe I'm stretching this now :-)):
Sonic Youth - Murray Street

favorite 2001 release that I purchased in 2002:
System Of A Down - Toxicity

best album least likely to appeal to 'Indie elitist snobs':
Audioslave - S/T

best album to smoke a doobie to :-P (from what I've heard):
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
