| Deep Purple Machine Head on DVD audio | Dave_G Dec 3, 2002 10:28 AM | | I own this but can only play it back on a dvd player without dvd audio decoding.
Also good I bet is Queensryche Empire DVD audio.

| re: Any o you guys into hi-rez formats | DustyChalk Dec 3, 2002 2:16 PM | | I actually don't have a DVD-A player, yet, but have two DVD-A discs -- Philip Glass, Koyaanisqatsi, and Blue Man Group, Audio. Both, musically, are highly recommended, but I haven't even tried the surround versions but briefly. When I get the HT set back up, will let you know. SACD-wise, I would highly recommend the following: Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells Cowboy Junkies, Open Touched by Tango Tango (la elegia de quienes ya no so [the elegy for those who are no longer]) -- SACD was made for the bandoneon. Which player did you get? |
| re: Any o you guys into hi-rez formats | Javier Dec 3, 2002 5:53 PM | | pionner 47a1 universal player, also the pionner 49txi receiver, with the firewire interface.
My first impressions are very positive but i have to try to forget the stereo perspective ( probably something similar should the people expienced when mono changed to stereo) is pretty amusing to honor the truth listenig to all those little noises on the bjork album dancing all around you.
Just got back from my local best buy and i picked eagles HFO ( dvd audio version), queen nigth at the opera, queensryche empire and yes fragile will try to give them a listen tonight.
Thank you guys. |
| Too high dollar for me | Jim Clark Dec 4, 2002 6:43 AM | | the equipment isn't the problem, it's buying or rebuying all the music. The Hi-Rez thing has a very long way to go before I join in. For those with unlimited funds I can certainly see the appeal.
Know what also bothers me? It's the fact that I know that the primary reason behind these formats is to eliminate copying. Not that I don't see their point but that doesn't mean I have to like it and it certainly is a deterrent for me.

| Not to mention lack of decent titles. | Slosh Dec 4, 2002 3:38 PM | | I got my SACD/DVD-A player four months ago and have one SACD and two DVD-As (and don't even like one of them). I got it mainly as a DVD-V uppgrade so it gets lots of use for movies but I sure as hell ain't buying Toto SACDs no matter how good the sound.
Copy protection is a non-issue for me since I can just record at the analog outputs with my stand-alone burner.
The two DVD-As I have don't equal LP but do sound better than my best CDs, but not by much. The one SACD I have does equal vinyl sonics and I hope Sony gets their act together and releases some interesting albums from their huge Columbia inventory, although I refuse to buy something I already have on CD or LP.
I also think surround sound is pretty useless for music. |
| Agreed in most,,, | Javier Dec 4, 2002 4:12 PM | | for sure thats the worst, lack of sofware, hopefully will see more interesting releases on the future.
In comparison to LP, well i never owned a decent turntable, and sure i really liked the vynil sound a lot, but already the memory is pale so i prefer cd overall.
Surround for music weel it can be pretty fun sometimes, after all i think that in some "pop" releases the intended efect was to "surround you" in that "efects" thats the case in Pink Floyd releases, but again not everybody cup of tea.
Thank you for the input slosh. |
