| YES Will Never Be This Good Again!! | BarryL Dec 3, 2002 3:08 PM | | I'm listening to the new Flower Kings CD, and haven't gotten past the first track, which is the 30 minute-plus The Truth Will Set You Free. This is, hands-down, the best Yes immitation ever put on record, including Starcastle and Druid. This fantastic tune is a cross between Tales From Topographical Oceans Yes and Keys To Ascension Yes, with tunes like Mind Drive. It's got impecable bass, weepy slide guitar, extremely Anderson-like vocals at times by second-singer Daniel Gildenlow, and rippling hammond organ. But perhaps the best part of it all is the fantastic drumming by new Flower King drummer Zoltan Csorsz. This is what White used to be like back in 1974.
This tune rocks, and stands up there (almost) with the best of Yes. It is one sonic treat, with everything as clear as everything else. It's inventive, it's musical, its interesting, it's loud, it's quiet, it's the best Yes since Yes.
I hope the rest of the album is as good. But for this track alone, it gets my vote for best prog album of 2002.
And there's sixteen more songs to go! |

What is the deal with White ?
I have seen YES 14 times -- the first time with Bruford; the other 13 with White. (Did not see the UNION tour).
I saw White's first ever YES performance in Dallas (without me knowing until later) and thought he handled the "Bruford licks" just fine.....Fragile, CTTE & The Yes Album stuff.
I saw them 2 years later on the RELAYER tour and was smoked -- I told my buddy that this guy might surpass Bruford -- could not believe what I saw White pull off when they played SOUND CHASER: amazing.
12 shows later I'm wondering why the spark is gone -- its like they asked him to lay back and just keep us steady, instead of ever getting out front. I saw them play THE REVEALING SCIENECE OF GOD in 97 and he really tamed it back. I was disappointed in the drum part but not the song overall.
So now you got me interested in this FLOWER KINGS cd -- what is the title ??? |
| Thanks for the info. | Finch Platte Dec 3, 2002 8:50 PM | | I have a copy of this disc (thanks, DG) and played it in the car on the way home. My commute isn't long enough to hear the whole tune, but I thought "this really sounds like Yes."
I enjoy Yes once in a while, but I'm hoping the rest of the disc sounds more like the Flower Kings.
The name of the new disc is "Unfold The Future."
Any more info on the band you can tell us, BL?
