It's almost certain to have a major effect on terrestrial broadcasting. It could push it further in the direction it's already moving - more talk and information, especially on the FM band, and the music stations that remain will become even more tightly focused and programmed. The big chains like Infinity and Clear Channel have already bleached much of the local flavor out of radio; the question is whether a ubiquitous satellite service, identical from coast to coast, will speed up that process or push it in the opposite direction. Terrestrials may decide that their best hope of competing is to go 'back to the future' and offer an ultra-local alternative.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
