| Should I go see The Allman Bros in NYC ? | Les Mar 3, 2003 6:53 AM | | My wife & I will be in NYC 9 -16 March and it seems the biggest rock ticket in town next week is a night at the Beacon Theater with the above. I can get tickets for friday 14 March. I've a couple of their albums, never a big favourite but this is the only major rock concert in NYC next week should I go ?
Cheers

| Dicky Betts has was kicked out of the band, and . . . . | Darius Mar 3, 2003 10:55 AM | | I doubt they're as good as they used to be even when I saw them a handful of times in the early 90s. They're historically an excellent live act, and I've always enjoyed them, but without Dicky Betts I think you'd miss a lot (although granted I haven't seen them since he left). Their shows demand some endurance too; I wouldn't drag the wife to one. I would skip it. There's a lot of good stuff to do in NYC on a Friday night. If I come across any suggestions, I'll post a follow-up. Fiancee and I are seeing Royksopp at Irving Plaza on March 17, the day after you leave. |
| Absolutely!!! | HYFI Mar 3, 2003 1:13 PM | | I am a big fan and never did see the band as Allman Bros. However, just a few months ago I saw Greg Allman and Friends in a small venue of 900 people. It was fantastic. When Greg is gone, there will be no more Allman Bros Band so I would recomend seeing the show. Have a nice trip!

| To jam or not to jam... | J Mar 3, 2003 5:31 PM | | ...the Beacon Theater is a fine place to see a show, but it's not exactly intimate, probably around 2000-2500 capacity. If you're not a diehard Allman Bros fan, then I'd say the biggest ticket in town might very well be not the best. There's indie rock probably 7 nights a week, but if that ain't yer thing, there's a slew of fine jazz, quite a bit of it free, too. I'll try to snatch a Village Voice & see what's up for next week. Darius might well come through with something before I do, but I'll take a look. |
