Recieved Queen & Supertramp from RPM3-LockBox

These are great comps. All I knew of Supertramp was COTC and BIA, and whatever had gotten radio play throughout the decades. This was some great stuff.

Queen, same thing. I had a couple of albums, and have their greatest hits (the first one). They were so diverse; playing raucus, kick-ass R-n-R, then playing something delicate like <i>'39</i>.

Both very good comps. This is why we do this trading thing.

Got this myself last week and really only had a chance to appreciate it last day or two. There's some really fine stuff on here - a lot of it I hadn't heard before.

Thanks Rick, another great RPM piece of work.

Cheers

The Queen was just awesome. I used to own a bunch of Queen on vinyl, but in a brain-dead state when I was moving out of state 5 years ago, got rid of all of my vinyl, and gave away my Marantz Gold TT. Gave it all away. Arghh (kickin myself in the arse for the 9,999,999th time). I've listened to the Queen on/off all weekend. Very nicely done.

And the Supertramp was cool - a lot of songs I wasn't too familiar with. I plan on a more thorough listening session this week - not just in my car.

Thanks again for sharing.

Haven't heard it all yet but like what I have heard. That Keaggy is the same one I used to have but I'm glad to have it again because I'm more into learning acoustic guitar now than I was when I had the disc before. Thanks for the comps.

Cool, glad to be able to share it with you all.RPM

Gotta admit, I was a bit surprised at the number of requests I had for the Supertramp discs, but I guess "Crime" and "Breakfast" <i>are</i> really the only 2 albums of theirs which had mass appeal.

My Supertramp history goes back to high school when my buddy sprung some cocert tickets on us (circa BiA tour). My first big show at Madison Sq Garden. I really wasn't at all familiar with the band back then, but I must admit that without relaizing it I was seeing one of my all time favorite concerts. Saw them again a few years later at Radio City Music Hall, they're a great live band with lots of theatrics. Anyhow I've been a fan of theirs ever since.

As you all noticed, there's some fine gems hidden in their lesser known albums. I don't think I took more than 3 songs from any given album, so there's more good tunes left on them to enjoy.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it makes the effort worthwhile. :-)

One of the major voices of the band, Roger Hodgson, is still making good Supertramp-esque music (he sung "The Logical Song", "School", "Breakfast In America" "Take The Long Way Home" and many more before going solo in '82) Check out www.rogerhodgson.com), FYI. I saw a performance of his on a Direct TV concert when he was touring with Ringo and to see and hear him do those old staples was amazing- the crowd really responded well.

Also. Rick, I think I mentioned this to you already but I like the early stuff on your comps I had never heard before- the '74-'75-era tracks.

I have this album on cassette, so it gets very little playtime. From what I remember it's a good listen, and very (as you pointed out) very 'Supertrampesque'.
I didn't know about the tour with Ringo. Was there a stageshow (movie screen, props, etc.) accompanying the music? Wonder if a DVD will be forthcoming?

That concert was one a friend taped off Direct TV and was on Ringo's last tour, which I guess was a couple years ago now. I don't think Hodgson is in Ringo's current line-up. As far as a stageshow, it was just a straightforward concert, no props, etc. Howard Jones played keyboards for him, Ian Hunter sung "All The Young Dudes", "Cleveland Rocks", Greg Lake sang "Lucky Man" (his voice was in awful shape) but Roger Hodgson put on the best performance other than Bongo himself. If this comes out on DVD, or is already available, I'd get a copy.
I saw Roger perform last fall.ForeverAutumn

I highly recommend his show if you get the chance. I posted a review here. In fact I think that it was one of my first posts. I don't know how to attach a post to this one, so you'll have to do a search if you're interested.

I also saw him with Ringo (along with Greg Lake, Howard Jones and Sheila E). Hodgson was definately the stand-out of the show with Lake pulling in a close second.

I forgot Ian Hunter. He was there too. Awesome show. (nt)ForeverAutumn
