Just placed an order w/Laser's EdgeDPM

With Nearfest approaching, I decided it was time for a new batch of prog CDs for my cross-state drive to New Jersey. Hopefully arriving in my mailbox by the end of the week are...

1) Anekdoten/Gravity--This is their brand new release gang. It certainly took them long enough. Let's hope it was worth the wait.
2) Spock's Beard/The Kindness Of Strangers--I seem to be working my way backwards through their catalogue. Many fans say that this is their best release. We shall see.
3) Spaced Out/Eponymous II--These guys were at Nearfest 2002 and displayed some jawdropping musical ability.
4) Sleepless/Winds Blow Higher--I don't know anything about this band. But the description sounded promising, and the CD cover looked cool. So, I figured I'd give 'em a shot. It's been awhile since I've done a completely blind purchase. Does anyone out there in progland know anything about this band? Demetrio?

Aside from the four titles above, I was tempted to purchase the following disks, but then I decided to wait until another day.
1) Ars Nova/Android Domina
2) Glass Hammer/Lex Rex
3) Amasailan Varasaat (I probably spelled this one wrong.)

I also wanted Nathan Mahl/A Clever Use Of Shadows, but it is out of print. Damn! Can anyone out there burn me a copy?

I have this cd and liked it at first listening, but after some more time I found the kinda growly vocals quite annoying. Sincerely I don't think you'll like this cd that much, so I think you'd better ask Laser's Edge to substitute it. Get that Alamaailman Vasarat cd instead, I'm almost sure you'll love it. This is a side-project from members of the Finnish group Höyry-Kone. Another good option is the Glass Hammer cd you have on your wish list, it's pretty good too.

I can burn you a copy of the Nathan Mahl cd you need, email privately informing your address because I guess I lost it in my database, okay?

Kind regards

Demetrio

Hi Demetrio.

I decided to hold off on the Glass Hammer and Alamaailman Vasarat disks because both bands are going to be performing at Nearfest. I figure I can get some exposure to their music before risking any $. Still, I do like to experiment from time to time--hence, the Sleepless purchase.

As for Nathan Mahl, yes, I would like a copy. I will send you my new (I moved last month.) home address.

Thanks,
Dave M

I could burn you the Nathan Mahl + Sleepless and deliver them to you @ Nearfest in 11 dayz.
I second Demetrio's accessment of Sleepless, the vocalist uses this whispering style, reminicent of Robbie Robertson that strangely grated on me at first, then I grew more tolerant of it. Still overall, a marginally good CD that see's occasional spinning. Eme if interested in copies.. rrichmon44 At Junodotcom

Thanks Richmon, but I think I'm going to stick my neck out and go ahead with the Sleepless purchase. After acquiring a taste for Opeth, I've become very tolerant of strange vocal stylings.

As for a copy of the Nathan Mahl, I'm going to opt for Demetrio mailing me a copy. Considering the number of people that are going to be there, you and I may have a hard time finding each other at Nearfest.

Please give me a full report of Nearfest, I would like to attend but I only really want to see TFK, Camel, and Glass Hammer.

Have fun!

www.nearfest.com . .... click on merchandise, they don't have the 2003 yet, just previous years, imagine 2003's will be available after the concert. On a side note, there's an unoffical t-shirt contest at the concert, lots of old proggers wearing Gentle Giant, Genesis shirts, trying to show off your oldest and most obscure band shirt. Saw lots of cool T's last year. Think I'll sport my Ozric Tentacles tie die this year.
OK thanks. RE: Tee ShirtsDave_G

Will look into that if they put up a 2003 one.

Wish I could go, but finances and distance kill anything I can do about it. I did go to the last one in PA (2001) and had a great time with the prog freaks. Sleep was secondary, and drinks were.. well, flowin. As well as the music. Anyway, offer Rob and Chad a beer, and kick it. I would have loved to go there just to see the reconfigured Anglagard. Oh well, life is a female dog sometimes. Cheers.
