Anyone guilty of impulse-buying of cd's?PwrPopGuy

I'm not only guilty of impulse-buying, but even worse, for some cheesy mess like this set I saw while in Target today, for only $9.99;

I coulda had the remastered Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here for the same price!

There are enough CDs that I should own, but don't, that I could buy one every day for the next 3 years and still be far behind. To throw out a power-pop example (for you, Rick), I still don't own Cheap Trick In Color on CD. Or Revolver, for that matter. The same holds true for me in all genres.

I can't justify buying anything on "impulse" when so many notable gaps still exist in my collection. You remember that scene in High Fidelity when Jack Black berates the customer for not owning Blond On Blond? "Oh my God, that's perverse!" He might as well have been talking to me.
Afraid so. One of my last impulse buys...Digital-G

was similar to the one you mentioned, except it was a 70's compilation for a great buy. After getting it home I was horrified to find that all of the songs had been re-recorded - most by the originial artists, but some must have been performed by the "Sound-Alikes" (ha ha, remember them?) since it was a Badfinger song.
I hate it when that happensPwrPopGuy

I checked the box real good before buying this 80's collection, and then popped one of the discs in my car player. It's the original recordings by the original artists, thank goodness. Sound quality's decent, too. I figure there's enough material in 40 songs that I can condense it down to one 19- or 20-song single 80's comp. Besides, I mostly bought it for my wife :-)

...including today - listening to the new Macy Gray album, "The Trouble With Being Myself." Pure on-the-spot buy - saw it in the store, enjoyed "On How Life Is," figgered why not? Good pick, too - if you like 70s-style funk, this is a real throwback - strings, wah-wah guitar, Fender rhodes, etc. Vive le impulse!

I rarely go into a wreckit stow with something specific in mind. Last week was an exception - went for Steely Dan, and ended up getting "Hail to the Thief" as well on the spur of the moment.

Where'd you get the new Macy Gray? I didn't think it was supposed to be out until next month. Outside the States, perhaps?

Anyway, that's one I'm lookin' forward to. I liked her first two, just listened to The Id last night.

Funny thing, nobody - I didn't think it was supposed to be out till next month either. Spotted it in the new releases rack near the register (impulse, impulse) of Compact Disc World in Union, NJ, USA and snagged it. They had maybe a half-dozen copies out. Out of curiosity, checked a few new release and cd-sales web sites when I got home, and all of them had July release dates (1st or 15th).

Not quite a Harry Potter-level slip, but it appears someone might have jumped the gun... Anyway, it'll be worth the wait, if you're waiting for it.

. . . only if they're under a few bucks.

The last one was "Cinema Recorded Music Library" which had a cool cover and interesting track names. It was an excellent "couple of bucks" purchase.

That Floy remaster sounds really good. I got it at Costco last year for like 11 clams.

PPG, what did you think of the 6 pair disc? Anything on there gonna make the PPG cut?
I think I may go with....PwrPopGuy

7 & 8, and I've not really been a big fan of this band but these two tracks were fairly tolerable :-) This sampler really has that Paiva sound all over it. BTW, did you have a preference on which two?
7&8, huh?Troy

I wooda figured you for a fan of that band. Short, oddball pop toons. Maybe you haven't heard the right songs?

For sure, I'd jump with tracks 1&2. But I'm goofy that way. Gotta keep the comp weird donchaknow. I also like 3&4 a lot too and I bet not many people have heard that stuff. It's VERY early in his career and it breaks a lot of rules.

Oh well, I gave you 6 pairs with the intention of YOU choosing what to use so I'll shut up now.
I may reconsiderPwrPopGuy

I do like B & H and that would throw the mix an offbeat curve.
