| Concert Tee Shirt thread | Dave_G Jun 18, 2003 11:02 AM | | Do you guys buy tee shirts at concerts?
Do you have any old ones?
I rarely buy them.
I have an old Genesis one (1980), a Marley one (1981), and a Split Enz one (1982).
That's it!
How about you?

| Speaking of tees | JDaniel Jun 18, 2003 11:40 AM | | Did ya get the one I sent you, along with the hip hop stuff for your boy? Just wondering. Tis a very rainy day here - I assume it is the same in Hotlanta.

| Yes. | Dave_G Jun 18, 2003 12:13 PM | | I guess our email connection still doesn't work, I've been emailing ya...
So. No concert tees?

| I'll reply via email, in case you've got mine wrong | JDaniel Jun 18, 2003 12:21 PM | | And I have a couple of t-shirts packed away from my high school and college days, but nothing of note (Doobie Bros., Judybats, and a few frat party tees).
Wish I had one from the Clapton/Fabulous Thunderbirds show I saw about 1982.

| I still got a few. | DarrenH Jun 18, 2003 12:47 PM | | I've had quite a few over the years. Most of them either got too small or I just plain wore them out.
This is what I still have:
Metallica tee from the 1994 tour. Still fits and in damn good condition. I don't wear it much anymore.
Rush tee from the 1994 Counterparts tour. Reduced to a workshop tee. It's in bad shape.
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here replica tee from the 1994 tour. Same as the Rush tee. Some holes and stains. I wear it when I'm working around the house.
I went to a lot of concerts that year. In fact, I haven't bought a concert tee since then although I've been to a few more concerts since that time.
When I see Tull in August I may pick up a tee. And if I can get the band to sign it, I'll put it in a frame, hang it on the wall, and look at it.

| once I bought a Foghat hat | richmon Jun 18, 2003 1:01 PM | | Occasionlly will snag one if it's interesting or obscure (like a PTree shirt) Gathering dust in a drawer somewhere are T's with album covers of King Crimson's Red, ELP's Tarkus, circa late 70's. Also a Johnny Winter '25 years on the road' and an Allman Bros Band Teez from the 80's, and a few years back couldn't resist picking up Ozric Tentacles Sploosh album cover on a tie dye. But why do I buy these cause I rarely pull them out, it seems like Justin Timberlake fan club mania. |
| A couple or three, maybe... | tugmcmartin Jun 18, 2003 1:10 PM | | I've got a Jerry Garcia Band T-Shirt from their 1993 tour. Also a Blues Traveller from their 1992 tour. I also have a Jimmy Buffett tee from his 1994 tour supporting the Fruitcakes album. And lastly an Allman Bros. tee from i think their 1995 tour. Coulda been 1994. I almost bought a Yonder Mtn. long sleeve tee a couple weeks ago (it was cold that evening), but opted not to after getting warmed up with a few shots... |
| A few | BryanE Jun 18, 2003 4:09 PM | | I'll buy em if they are cool looking.
Or,in the case of Jimmy Thackery, not that cool but I want to support the band.

| 30 or 40 in a box | Stone Jun 18, 2003 5:22 PM | | Someday (I've been saying this for 10 years) I'm going to have a quilt made out of them. I haven't worn any of those in years. There's Violent Femmes, COC, DRI, Meat Puppets, New Order etc. and most of it's from the mid-80s.
Stone |
| I wish that I had done that | ForeverAutumn Jun 18, 2003 6:43 PM | | Not the quilt thing...the keeping them in a box thing.
I used to go to a lot of concerts in my younger days. And I had a friend who sold concert tees so we used to get them at cost. I used to get a tee from just about every concert that I went to. When I moved out of my parents house all those years ago, I threw them out. They were all worn out and most of them didn't fit anymore. I could just kick myself now.
I only have three right now.
Eagles from 1994. It's falling apart and is just worn around the house now.
Styx from 2002
Yes from 2002. The Yes shirt is a really cool tye-die shirt that I had to mortgage my house to buy.
In general, I find concert tees to be over priced and poor quality, which deters me from buying as often as I used to. Now I'll just buy them if I really like the shirt (like the Yes shirt). |
| Quality Shirts | MasterCylinder Jun 19, 2003 6:07 AM | | I don't buy tee shirts. They are a rip-off.
If concert vendors have something with more quality for sale, I will consider it.
For instance, logo denim shirt, ball cap or golf shirt.
These of course must have well-done embroidery on the logo and be made with quality.
They are usually expensive but, will last a long time and not fade like some cheap silkscreen-printed tee shirt.
The best one I ever bought was from Yes' TALK Tour:
it is a very heavy black baseball jersey with a great TALK logo. Bought in 1994 and worn very often, it still looks new. |
| Here's my favorite, and it's nasty! | Finch Platte Jun 18, 2003 7:21 PM | | One of many RHCP tees, along w/ several other band shirts. This one is like new- no wonder, cuz I couldn't wear it anywhere! Church, maybe.
Then they started getting
i way
too expensive.
I like Stone's idea of making a quilt!

| just about every band i see | rufus Jun 20, 2003 7:08 PM | | the latest i bought was a dirty three shirt.
the oldest i have is probably a police baseball style T from 1980 or 81, whenever the ghost in the machine tour was.
my favorite was a sky blue echo and the bunnymen shirt from the dancing horses tour that had the bunnyman/horse whatever figure it was supposed to be front and center. i wore that shirt everywhere, and now it's in shreds. if i could find another just like it i'd grab it in a heartbeat.
of course, most of my older ones don't fit any more. |
