Am I the only one who can't seem to get the hang of transferring music into this thing? I get the CD's copied onto my hard drive but can't seem to get the download onto the MP3 player.

It's certainly not intuitive, and the directions aren't good either.

I don't have time to respond completely to this right now. I'll reply from home over the weekend and try to help you.

Here's what I do, but I'm going to add the disclaimer that I'm not sure it's the only way to get the job done:

1.Open MusicMatch Jukebox.

2.In the File menu, click on "Add New Track(s) to Music Library...".

3.In the window that opens, in the left box find the folder containing MP3s you want to transfer to your iPOD and double click on it. All of the MP3s (and other formats) should show up in the right box.

4.Highlight the MP3s you want to transfer, and click on "Add" in the lower right corner. Repeat this step until you have all of the MP3s you want in your Music Library.

5.Hit "Exit" in the lower right corner of the new window. The MP3s should show up in your Music Library now.

6.In the File menu, click on "Download files to portable devices...". A new Portable Devices window should pop up.

7.Connect your iPOD to your computer via the FireWire. The Portable Devices window (from step 6) should say "MUSICMATCH is activating your portable device(s). Please wait..." This takes a matter of minutes (for my computer at least) and an iPOD icon will appear in the Portable Devices window once it's complete.

8.If it does not already appear in the main box of the Portable Devices window, click on the iPOD icon in the left box so that it shows up in the main box.

9.Click and drag the titles you want from the Music Library to the main box in the Portable Devices window and the files will automatically transfer to the iPOD. This part should go quickly.

10.Once you are done transfering files, click on the Eject button at the bottom of the Portable Devices window and wait for the checkmark to appear on your iPOD before you disconnect.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like you're working in the stoneage (no pun intended). Get yourself one of those Apple supercomputers with a unix-based operating system. Ten years from now PCs will be obsolete.

Glad to hear you bought an Apple. I guess that's why the share price is going up!

On the Mac, it's almost full proof, and I suppose its the same for Windows. Here's how I do it. I open iTunes. I suppose that there is a comparable piece of software to manage your tunes for Windows. If not, ignore the rest of this.

Under Edit, select Preferences.

Then select the Importing tab. Choose MP3 or some other compression format. I choose 192 bps. iTunes now rips your songs into MP3s. Note that you don't have to convert it to MP3s.

WIth the Mac, when you connect your iPod, it automatically synchronizes to you iTunes, and downloads all the tunes.

If none of this helps, I have found the Apple help site on line to be pretty good. It may take you about 15 minutes to find what you want, but you'll probably find it , and more.
